Fishermen in Quynh Luu strike it rich with tuna.
(Baonghean.vn) - Since the Lunar New Year, taking advantage of favorable weather, fishermen in Quynh Luu have been actively going out to sea; among them are boats returning full of tuna - a type of fish with high economic value for export.

Present at Lach Quen harbor, Tien Thuy commune on the morning of March 28th, dozens of fishing boats from Quynh Luu fishermen successively docked, and the crew members were all excited because of a bountiful catch of tuna.
Fisherman To Duy Truyen, the owner of a fishing boat in Quynh Nghia commune, shared that his boat went out to sea for 7 days and caught more than 2 tons of tuna. Currently, it's the peak season, so every trip is very profitable. He estimates that after deducting expenses, each trip yields a profit of several hundred million dong, with the trip he just returned this morning bringing in around 200 million dong.

The tuna are brought to the dock and sold directly to traders at 120,000 VND/kg, while smaller ones fetch 100,000 VND/kg. A small amount is bought by small traders and resold at markets in Nghe An province and neighboring provinces at prices ranging from 150,000 to 180,000 VND/kg.
According to fisherman Ho Van Manh in Tien Thuy commune, barracuda are mainly caught using nets or hooks at night, 40-50 nautical miles from shore. The barracuda fishing season runs from November to March of the following lunar year. This is a high-value seafood, with large fishing boats earning billions of dong in a single trip. Barracuda are expensive, but popular among locals because their meat is flavorful, aromatic, and nutritious when cooked.

Quynh Luu currently has nearly 1,200 fishing vessels, of which about 700 are offshore fishing vessels specializing in catching tuna, squid, etc. Each year, fishermen in Quynh Luu catch about 4,000 tons of tuna; most of the fish are exported to countries such as China and South Korea.
