According toGuardianJamie Andrew became the first amputee Briton to successfully conquer the 4,478-meter-high Matterhorn peak in Switzerland on August 4th. The 47-year-old climber spent five years training before achieving this feat with two professional guides.

"I've never seen someone who's lost all their limbs do this. It's a mistake to think that climbing the Matterhorn is easy, even for the average person," said Kurt Lauber, a mountain guide.

Andrew took approximately 13 hours to climb to the summit of the Matterhorn and back to the campsite, five hours longer than the average climber. However, Mr. Lauber greatly admired Andrew's achievement.

The entire climbing group made it through bad weather, only returning to camp at 7 pm and narrowly avoiding disappearance. That day, two other Britons who climbed the Matterhorn from the Italian side were killed.

"Ultimately, climbing isn't that difficult. This is the result of hard work, careful preparation, and even mistakes," Andrew said.

Andrew lost his arms and legs when he got caught in a blizzard while mountaineering in France 17 years ago. Before returning to his passion for mountaineering, he had to learn to walk again, then moved on to skiing and long-distance running.

Andrew was able to conquer many mountain peaks with the help of prosthetic limbs. He used his healthy arm to hold the rope while climbing.

The Matterhorn is a famous peak in the Alps, located on the border between Italy and Switzerland. It is also a popular destination for many mountaineering enthusiasts.
