Social media users immediately offered to donate kidneys to Ms Swaraj, many leaving their personal phone numbers. Khemraj Sharma, 24, who works as an engineer in the northern Indian city of Jammu, was one of them. Ms Swaraj, 64, who has a history of chronic diabetes, was hospitalized in Delhi earlier this month. On November 15, she announced on Twitter that she was on dialysis due to kidney failure and was undergoing tests for a kidney transplant, according to the BBC.

"I am very healthy so I can donate my kidney to her," he said.

"She has worked tirelessly for Indians stranded abroad and is the first foreign minister to do so much for Indians abroad. She even opens her ministry on Sundays for Indians. That is why I am willing to donate my kidney."

Ms Swaraj did not respond to requests for a kidney but expressed gratitude to her "friends" who were willing to donate their kidneys.

"I don't know how to express my deep gratitude to you," she wrote on Twitter.

On November 16, the Delhi hospital authorities said that "chronic diabetes had affected her kidney function, but her condition is now stable".
