Woman uses spiritual tricks to defraud people of more than 5 billion VND
(Baonghean.vn) - Knowing that the victims were well-off and believed in spirituality, Thuy came up with the idea of defrauding them. Greedy for money, the victims repeatedly transferred nearly 5.5 billion VND to Thuy.
On April 29, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Nguyen Thi Thuy (born 1976), residing in Tang Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, for the crime of"Fraudulent appropriation of property".
In early 2019, due to not having a stable job and having a lot of debt, Thuy came up with the idea of defrauding and appropriating other people's assets to pay off debt and spend.
Knowing that Ms. Bui Thi Hien worked as a shaman, built a shrine to the Mother Goddess in her house, believed in spirituality and had good financial conditions, Thuy came up with the idea of fraud.

Thuy lied to Ms. Hien about the inheritance she received including: 189 billion VND, 5 luxury cars such as: Parado, Audi... 15 "high-end" motorbikes such as: SH, Exciter... 15 expensive phones, 15 taels of gold from a family in Ho Chi Minh City.
Because this couple has died, Mr. Kien - an American citizen, a relative will take care of the procedures for Thuy to receive the inheritance. Currently, Thuy is in dire need of money. If Ms. Hien transfers money to Thuy to complete the procedures to receive that property, she will be given 79 billion VND, many cars and motorbikes. Ms. Hien trusts her so she has transferred 742 million VND to Thuy many times.
Then, knowing that Ms. Hien's younger brother, Mr. Bui Huy H., also believed in spirituality and had good financial conditions, Thuy came up with the idea of fraud. Using the same trick, Thuy promised to give Mr. H. 57 billion VND, 1 car and 2 motorbikes.
Trusting her, Mr. H. transferred a total of more than 4.8 billion VND to Thuy. Most of the money was borrowed by Mr. H. from many other people, causing them to suffer.
At the trial, the defendant admitted to his crime. Thuy cried and expressed remorse. The defendant said that due to the pressure of debt, he used spiritual tricks to defraud the victims.
The panel of judges determined that the defendant's actions were dangerous to society and required strict punishment. The court sentenced defendant Nguyen Thi Thuy to 19 years in prison for fraud and appropriation of property.
