According to the indictment of the Do Luong District People's Procuracy, on October 14, 2017, the Do Luong District Police discovered and apprehended Oanh red-handed while she was carrying two packages of narcotics weighing 10.608 grams. During questioning at the scene, Oanh confessed that she was on her way to sell the narcotics to a person named Tuan for 6 million VND.
In court, Pham Thi Oanh confessed to selling drugs to make ends meet and raise her young children because her husband was serving a prison sentence.
It is known that Oanh's entire family has a "dark" record related to drugs. In 2016, Oanh's father, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hinh (born in 1939), was also sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Do Luong District People's Court for "illegally trading narcotics".
Oanh's husband, Nguyen Dang Duc (born in 1974), was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Nghe An Provincial People's Court for "illegally trafficking narcotics." Shortly after, in September 2017, their eldest daughter, Nguyen Thi Hang (born in 1997), was also arrested for illegally possessing narcotics and is awaiting trial.
For the defendant's criminal conduct, the court sentenced Pham Thi Oanh to 5 years in prison.
