(Baonghean.vn) - Heavy rain, rising water quickly, many communes and villages in Thanh Chuong, Quy Chau, Que Phong districts were flooded. People stayed up all night gathering their belongings and running to higher ground to avoid the flood.

According to information from people in Thanh Chuong, Quy Chau, and Que Phong districts, on the night of September 26, many villages and hamlets did not sleep because of fear of heavy rain and rising water. Many families had their belongings submerged and were at risk of being swept away by floodwaters, so they went out to find high ground to survive the day and night.

* In Quy Chau district, the section of National Highway 48 passing through Chau Hoi commune was flooded, making it impossible for vehicles to pass. The water level at Chau Hoi suspension bridge was close to the edge of the bridge, people did not dare to cross. Many rice fields and fish ponds of Chau Hoi people were flooded, causing almost complete damage.

In Lam Hoi village, the water rose rapidly, causing many roads and kindergartens to be partially flooded. Commune and village officials and residents worked all night to check, remind and support affected cases.

In particular, a resident from Chau Binh commune passing through Chau Hoi commune was swept away by water flowing down from a high hill. Fortunately, Chau Hoi residents helped him and rescued him in time, so he escaped danger.

In Chau Binh commune, many houses were flooded and along some roads, people had to go out to avoid the flood. By this morning, September 27, the water had receded and people had returned to their homes to clean up. However, some roads were still flooded.

The entire Quy Chau district has affected communes such as: Chau Binh flooded from slope 77 (above the Ban Mong auxiliary dam) to the beginning of Chau Binh commune, flooded residential areas of Khoang village, Dong Phau village, Binh Ba village, Ke Kang village. Chau Hanh commune flooded residential areas of Ta Lanh village, landslides on the road section at Ke Le slope, flooded a section of National Highway 48 bordering Tan Lac town.

Tan Lac town area is flooded on Highway 48 in the middle of town, flooded residential areas of block 4, block 2, and Tan Huong block.

In Chau Thang commune, in addition to flooding the section of National Highway 48 at the foot of Bu Bai slope, there was also a landslide at the junction with Chau Tien commune, flooding Chau Thang bridge and residents on both sides of the bridge. In Chau Tien commune, rice fields and residential areas of Minh Tien village along the riverbank were flooded.

* In Que Phong districtIn some villages of Tien Phong and Quang Phong communes, the rain and floods also caused houses to be flooded. People worked all night to save their belongings and evacuate to safety.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, from the evening of September 26, Que Phong district experienced heavy rain. Until the morning of September 27, it continued to rain, causing serious landslides on many roads. The severe landslides include: the road to Nam Giai commune; National Highway 16 through Chuoi slope; Dong Van - Thong Thu traffic route.

Water levels in many rivers and streams are rising rapidly, causing flooding in communes such as Quang Phong, Cam Muon, Muong Noc, Tien Phong, Thong Thu, many schools and houses are also flooded. The release of floodwaters from some hydroelectric plants in Que Phong district is also one of the causes of flooding.

National Highway 48 through the districts of Quy Chau and Que Phong is currently flooded, causing traffic jams at 4 points: Km88; Km91+400; Km94; Km106. There are 2 landslides at Km85+700 on Ke Le slope and Km98+100 on Bu Bai slope.

Due to landslides, all vehicles cannot pass. Many rice fields and crops were flooded, and some houses collapsed. The damage caused by prolonged heavy rain is being updated by Que Phong district.

Faced with the above situation, Que Phong district has directed communes to set up checkpoints at road sections with high risk of landslides; and assigned people to be on duty at spillways to warn people not to go to the river to collect firewood or catch fish, which could endanger their lives. Rescue work for people in camps is also being carried out synchronously by the sector.

* In Thanh Chuong district, due to the influence of the tropical depression, since the evening of September 25, heavy and very heavy rain has occurred in the district, lasting for a long time, with rainfall reaching 300-400mm, causing localized flooding in some places in the district such as Thanh Lien, Thanh My, Hanh Lam, Thanh Huong communes...

This morning (September 27, 2023), Thanh Chuong District People's Committee temporarily suspended the Conference to disseminate the Law on Grassroots Democracy to focus on flood prevention work.
