People in Nghe An province proactively upgrade from 2G to 4G with Viettel.
Over the past period, Viettel Nghe An has made efforts to coordinate with localities to implement many positive solutions to disseminate information and support people in understanding the State's policies and guidelines; as a result, more and more Viettel customers are proactively switching from 2G-only devices to 4G-enabled devices.
Following the directives of the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Department of Information and Communications, Viettel Nghe An, in coordination with agencies, units, and localities in the province, is intensifying propaganda on the official websites and social media accounts of agencies and units, as well as the communication channels of wards and communes, regarding the policy of shutting down 2G networks from September 16th; helping customers using 2G phones to understand the information and switch their 2G phones to 4G phones.
Through public awareness campaigns, people have come to understand the practical significance of the policy to switch from 2G to 4G mobile phones; this will facilitate not only daily communication but also the completion of administrative procedures electronically and the use of digital utilities in daily life. As a result, more and more people are proactively following the government's policy.

At the community center in Hamlet 2, Hung Thinh Commune, Hung Nguyen District, after hearing the announcement on the public address system, a large number of people came to find out and check whether their phones were using 2G or 4G technology in order to switch over.
Ms. Dang Thi Nam (Hung Thinh commune, Hung Nguyen district) said: "I heard the information but was hesitant, wondering if my current phone was eligible for the 2G to 4G upgrade. After Viettel staff explained and checked, I learned that my phone was eligible. Fortunately, Viettel subsidized the price, allowing me to buy a new phone to ensure uninterrupted communication."
As the "D-day" for the 2G network shutdown approaches, the number of customers switching to 4G phones at Viettel stores has surged in recent days.
Ms. Pham Thi Sen from Nghi Phu commune, Vinh City, shared: “Initially, when I saw the information about having to change phones, I was quite worried about the difficulty and complexity of the conversion; 4G phones are touchscreens that are difficult to use. But at the Viettel store, the staff guided me attentively on how to convert and introduced many keypad phones that connect to the 4G network, which are very convenient for the elderly. I felt completely reassured and have been using the phone proficiently, and the call quality is also better than before.”

Recognizing the transition from 2G to 4G mobile phones as a top priority, from the beginning of 2024, Viettel Nghe An coordinated with units and localities in the province to strengthen communication efforts and support people in promptly switching to 4G phones; at the same time, actively and proactively prepared the conditions to facilitate the transition from 2G to 4G technology for people in the area.
Accordingly, Viettel is offering free 4G mobile phones to customers who register for prepaid packages with a term of 6 months or more, with the package price remaining unchanged. In addition, customers who do not wish to commit to a package will still receive a discount of up to 50% when purchasing certain 4G smartphone models offered by Viettel. Furthermore, Viettel has special preferential policies to support poor and near-poor households and the elderly when purchasing 4G phones.
In addition, users who successfully upgrade from 2G to 4G will receive free high-speed 4G data and access to online TV streaming applications… Viettel Nghe An has also invested in adding nearly 200 more 4G base stations in 2024 to increase 4G coverage to match 2G coverage.
Thanks to its decisive efforts, from the beginning of 2024 until now, Viettel has supported the conversion of more than 100,000 2G phones to 4G for people in Nghe An province. Currently, the percentage of Viettel customers in Nghe An using 4G phones is approximately 90% and is expected to increase rapidly in the coming days.

To reduce the number of 2G subscribers to below 5% when 2G is switched off, Viettel continues to implement various activities such as: diversifying communication methods to help people understand and comply with the government's policy on the 2G switch-off roadmap; ensuring a sufficient supply of 4G phones for customers; establishing community digital transformation teams in collaboration with local authorities and mobile sales teams to support customers 24/7; subsidizing phone prices to suit customers' budgets; and supporting 50% of the phone price for customers switching from 2G to 4G, and providing affordable smartphones (around 1 million VND) to the market… helping customers to easily switch and minimize problems arising during the 2G switch-off process.
Along with supporting customers in upgrading their phones to 4G technology, Viettel Nghe An also identifies 4G network quality as a top priority. Therefore, the goal for the last four months of the year is to launch several more 4G BTS stations, contributing to ensuring the best quality for customers after the service upgrade.
