People in Nghe An province flocked back to their hometowns for the holiday.

According to our reporter's observations, after the last working day ended on the afternoon of April 28th, the number of passengers at train stations, airports, and bus terminals surged compared to normal days.

Check-in points were also constantly crowded. Mr. Hoang Van Thu, Director of Vinh International Airport, said: During the April 30th - May 1st holiday, Vinh Airport will handle 42-48 takeoffs and landings each day, an increase compared to normal days. The number of passengers at the airport fluctuates between 7,000 and 8,000 per day. On April 28th and 29th, the first days of the holiday, the number of passengers was approximately 10,000.

It is known that the majority of passengers passing through the airport are people returning to their hometowns in Nghe An for the holidays, while the rest are tourists choosing Nghe An as their vacation destination.

At Vinh Station, the number of passengers disembarking from trains surged in the afternoon and evening of April 28th. An estimated 4,000 passengers boarded and alighted, a threefold increase compared to normal days. Many train carriages were fully booked, with even the extra seats completely full.

Due to the surge in passenger numbers, Vietnam Railways has increased the number of trains to meet the travel needs of residents and tourists. While normally only four North-South trains run daily and stop at Vinh Station, during the holiday period, additional trains such as SE11-12, NA3-4, SE35-36, etc., will be added.

Despite the high number of passengers, there were no chaotic queues at train ticket counters. This is because most people proactively booked tickets through apps and websites, instead of buying them in person as before.

In particular, even though it was only the first day of the holiday, according to Vinh Railway Transport Station, the number of people booking train tickets for May 3rd (the last day of the holiday) had increased significantly, with many people making reservations in advance for fear of tickets selling out after the holiday.

For passenger transport by bus, although the number of passengers has increased compared to normal days, the increase is not as dramatic as the two aforementioned modes of transport. At Vinh North Bus Station, nearly 200 buses are ready to operate at full capacity to serve passengers after the holiday.

Mr. Nghia, a representative of a bus company operating the Vinh - Hanoi route, shared: "During the holiday, we run two trips a day to pick up passengers. In previous years, tickets were basically fully booked because passengers booked 2-3 days in advance. However, this year, tickets weren't fully booked until the last day of the holiday. For the days from April 29th to May 2nd, only about 50% of the seats were booked in advance. Now that private vehicles are so common, transporting passengers by bus is also facing many difficulties..."
