People in Tuong Duong build gabion retaining walls to prevent landslides.

Despite the scorching sun, people in the mountainous region of Tuong Duong are still working together to build gabion retaining walls at high-risk landslide areas, especially as the rainy and stormy season approaches.

This is considered the most optimal solution to prevent landslides, especially with the rainy season approaching. The landslide at Pù Xén and Thạch Dương villages in Xá Lượng commune is approximately 100 meters long on the uphill side. A representative from the Bản Vẽ Hydropower Plant stated that the construction workers are mainly local residents, while the supervisory and monitoring staff are from the lowland districts. Local residents say that Pu Xen hill has many landslide-prone areas, with this area being the most severely affected. For example, in October 2023, heavy and prolonged rains caused soil and rocks to spill onto the road, making it impassable and isolating residents for several days. The heavy rains this past July caused significant landslides at many points along this road. Therefore, residents are very pleased with the project, as it alleviates their worries about landslides. According to statistics from Tuong Duong district, the routes frequently affected by landslides include: National Highway 7A through Mon village, Thach Giam town; Route 543C passing through Huoi Pai village, Yen Tinh commune; the road to Na Be and Hop Thanh villages, Xa Luong commune; along National Highway 7A Khe Kien - Ban Pung, Luu Kien commune; along the route from the intersection of Tam Thai commune to Tam Hop commune...
