Tuong Duong people build stone cages to prevent landslides

Under the scorching hot weather, people in the highlands of Tuong Duong still join hands to build stone cages at areas at high risk of landslides, especially as the rainy and stormy season is approaching.

In recent days, on the route passing through Xa Luong, Yen Na, Yen Hoa communes... in Tuong Duong district, many people have gathered at places where landslides frequently occur to build stone barriers. This is considered the most optimal solution to prevent landslides, especially during the approaching rainy and stormy season. The landslide point at Pu Xen village, Thach Duong village, Xa Luong commune is about 100 meters long on the positive slope. Local people said that Pu Xen hill has many landslides, of which this area is the most severe, for example, in October 2023, heavy rains caused rocks and soil to spill onto the road, making it impossible for vehicles to pass, and people were isolated for many days. During the heavy rains in July, many points on this road suffered quite severe landslides. Therefore, people were very excited to carry out the project, reducing their fear of landslides. Each layer of gabion revetment is over 1 meter high, the stone blocks are covered with a mesh layer woven from galvanized steel wire. This is a commonly used technique in construction works, applied in complex terrains, with strong currents, such as: seashores, river banks, streams, canals, irrigation dams; or places with underground waves, prone to landslides such as mountain passes, foothills, etc. Photo: Quang An

Weak humus layers can collapse at any time. According to statistics from Tuong Duong district, the routes with frequent landslides in the area include: National Highway 7A through Mon village, Thach Giam town; Route 543C through Huoi Pai village, Yen Tinh commune; Route to Na Be and Hop Thanh villages, Xa Luong commune; Along National Highway 7A Khe Kien - Pung village, Luu Kien commune; Along the route from Tam Thai commune intersection to Tam Hop commune...
