Entering the rainy season, the highlands of Nghe An are facing the risk of landslides and localized flooding. Therefore, with the close direction of all levels and sectors, people are increasingly aware of proactive response.

People voluntarily repair roads and overcome landslides

Bao Thang is one of the remote communes of Ky Son district, often experiencing landslides, flooding, and road cuts during heavy rains and strong winds. In particular, some locations are always at high risk of landslides causing cracks in roadbeds, house foundations, and collapse of roads and bridges.

The heavy rains after storm No. 3 caused a number of landslides in this commune, especially the landslide at the foot of the bridge in Cha Ca 2 village. The leader of Bao Thang Commune People's Committee said that after many natural disaster prevention campaigns, the government and people have built awareness and proactively taken measures to protect themselves from the negative effects of the weather.

With the motto of "4 on-site", when the bridge foot at Cha Ca 2 village showed signs of serious erosion, the commune and village officials and the people, regardless of wind and rain, worked together to "patch" the bridge foot, and fill in landslides and landslide-prone areas. After nearly a day of gathering soil and rocks, using some sand bags, the landslide under the bridge pier and abutment at Cha Ca 2 village was fixed.

Also affected by the rain after storm No. 3, many villages in Dooc May commune of Ky Son district also experienced landslides and mountain slides, burying some roads in the area through Huoi Vieng and Noong Han villages. According to the Dooc May commune People's Committee, the road to Noong Han village was the most seriously eroded, making it impossible for people and vehicles to pass.

Upon receiving the information, the “4 on-site” force, including organizations, Keng Du Border Guard Station and local people, mobilized human and material resources to dig and level rocks and soil to clear the road. At the same time, they surveyed some other landslide-prone areas and warned people to be careful when moving, especially when it rains.

Stick to the area, stick to weather forecast to proactively respond

According to natural disaster and weather warnings from regional and national hydrometeorological stations, Nghe An is a locality at risk of landslides in mountainous areas, flooding in plains, urban areas, and coastal areas when heavy rain occurs. Therefore, from the beginning of the year, Party committees and authorities at all levels have proactively developed detailed flood and storm prevention plans for their localities.

At the same time, regularly assign cadres in charge of the area and field to stay close to the grassroots to update the situation and direct timely response. For example, in Tuong Duong district, from September 15 to 17, leaders of the District Party Committee, District People's Committee, and Department of Agriculture and Rural Development surveyed the situation in key communes and villages at high risk of landslides and flooding to encourage and remind the authorities and people to proactively respond.

Similarly, in Ky Son district, after a long period of rain due to the influence of storm No. 3, dozens of landslides occurred in the district. The "4 on-site" forces proactively cleared the landslides that caused traffic jams and isolation. Leaders of the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Ky Son district also surveyed and directed response plans for floods and landslides in the communes of Muong Ai, Muong Tip, Na Ngoi, etc. Up to now, the landslides in Ky Son have been repaired and are not isolated.

In addition to knowing the area, knowing the weather forecast is also very important.

According to the forecast of the North Central Hydrometeorological Station, the impact of the tropical depression may strengthen into storm No. 4. From September 19 to September 22, in Nghe An province, there is a possibility of a widespread heavy rain with total rainfall: Mountainous areas 100 - 200 mm, some places over 250 mm such as Con Cuong, Anh Son, Thanh Chuong... Midland and coastal plains 150-350 mm, some places over 400 mm such as Vinh City, Cua Lo Town, Hung Nguyen... Heavy rain and localized heavy rain are likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas in urban areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes in mountainous areas.
