Germans are skeptical about the future of European security without Russia.
In an article for Frankfurter Rundschau, German MP Jürgen Trittin stated that the world is on the verge of a nuclear arms race, but that such a tragedy could be avoided if relations with Russia are improved.

Jürgen Trittin noted that European countries are reacting incorrectly to the threat of a new arms race while continuing to blame Russia for everything.
Furthermore, he emphasized that the United States is continuing to undermine peace agreements, leaving the world facing even greater risks.
"The actions of the current US administration combine the counter-constructive chaos of Donald Trump with the belligerent aggression of Pence and Bolton. This is a toxic mixture and embodies a threat to European security," added MP Jürgen Trittin.
Therefore, Trittin argues that Europe needs to come up with its own solution to the problem by strengthening its reciprocal relationship with Russia, as well as rejecting the deployment of the US missile defense system.
"European security can only be achieved by standing with Russia. The North Atlantic Alliance must not only propose the removal of tactical nuclear weapons from the continent, but also reject the US missile defense system if Russia is also willing to take steps toward disarmament," the German parliamentarian concluded.
