The person behind singer and Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan's PhD degree.

Meritorious Artist Tan Nhan, born in 1982, became known after winning first prize in the Folk Music category at the Sao Mai 2005 competition.

After winning the award, Tan Nhan studied at the conservatory, then stayed to pursue a Master's degree, followed by a PhD, and remained at the school as a lecturer. Currently, Tan Nhan is the Head of the Vocal Department at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Sharing about the person who strongly motivated and inspired her, Tan Nhan said: “I have had a passion for music since I was little. From the 10th grade, I had a strong dream of pursuing music and becoming a teacher. I had the opportunity to follow Ms. Lan Anh – who is also my cousin – to the conservatory (now the Vietnam National Academy of Music). While studying there, I looked to my teachers for guidance and strength. I learned so much from Ms. Lan Anh, Ms. Thu Lan, People's Artist Thanh Hoa, People's Artist Trung Kien, and others…”

Among them, the person who inspires me, inspires me, and whom I admire is my teacher - People's Artist Trung Kien. His way of life serves as a guiding principle for all his students, including me. He taught me that becoming an artist is important, but becoming a teacher is even more important.”

According to Tan Nhan, Mr. Trung Kien was a talented artist and an exemplary teacher.

“I learned so much from my teacher; he is a great role model in my life. The path he has taken has become an inspiration and a monument for us. He taught us that even if we haven't yet stepped out into the world, we must strive through our teaching work to help our students step out into the world,” said Tan Nhan.

Therefore, whether as a singer or a lecturer, Tan Nhan is a perfectionist, demanding, and sets high standards for herself and her students.

People's Artist Trung Kien was always regarded as an exemplary teacher, passionate about his profession and dedicated to the cause of education. He was admired by many generations of students and inspired many artists such as Trong Tan, Dang Duong, Tan Nhan, etc. People's Artist Trung Kien was the father of musician Quoc Trung. People's Artist Thanh Lam was Trung Kien's daughter-in-law for 10 years. When he passed away in early 2021, Thanh Lam wrote about him: "With deep respect and profound affection."
