Londoners threaten to protest after being told to 'stand on the right side of the escalator'.

The unwritten rule for using escalators in the underground train station, 'stand on the right, go on the left,' is facing a change that is angering Londoners.

Any visitor to London learns an unwritten rule every time they ride an escalator in the underground station: stand on the right and walk on the left. This unspoken rule has been in place for a long time, and even tourists find it hard to ignore.

However, London's commuting culture has been disrupted following a controversial decision by Transport for London (TFL). According to The Sun, passengers at Holborn station, one of London's busiest, will be required to stand on both the right and left sides of the upward-moving escalator near the Central Line station. TFL hopes the new rule will help passengers make better use of the space on the escalator, instead of everyone standing exclusively on the right side.

In response, Londoners are threatening to protest against the new rule. Passengers are now venting their frustration on social media: “Requiring everyone to stand on the left is against all things British. We can’t even yell at tourists to stand in line anymore,” tweeted user captainboo.

The Londonsnowman account commented: "Asking Brits to stand on the left side of an escalator is like asking a mouse to wash its hands before eating."
