Woman who boasted about knowing government leaders defrauded nearly 6 billion VND.
Claiming to be related to a government leader, a 49-year-old woman in Ho Chi Minh City promised to arrange job transfers and project approvals, thereby swindling billions of dong from her victims.
On October 15th, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency announced that they had arrested and detained Tran Thi Hoi (49 years old, from Bac Lieu province, residing in Tan Thuan Tay ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City) and searched her residence on charges of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".
Previously, the investigative police agency received and processed a criminal complaint from Mr. VTV accusing the Association of fraudulent activities and misappropriation of property.
According to the police, in 2020, during their acquaintance with Mr. V., Hoi boasted that he was related to government leaders and had helped many people get approved for projects, resolve land disputes, and transfer jobs.
Subsequently, Mr. V. asked the Association to help influence several companies to get their wind power projects approved in Kon Tum province. This woman received 5 billion VND from Mr. V. with the promise of handling the matter, but later used the money for personal purposes.
Using the same tactic, Hoi received 400 million VND from the director of a real estate company in Binh Thuan province, promising to influence the process to expedite the approval of the company's application and land payment procedures for a residential project in Long Thanh district, Dong Nai province.
In addition, Hoi also received 400 million VND from another man with the promise of securing a job, but Hoi failed to fulfill any of those promises.
