Thai people flock to get tattoos to commemorate the king.

(Baonghean.vn) - A few days after the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej on October 13th, many Thai people are choosing to get tattoos as a way to forever remember the revered king.

Thai media reported that starting on October 15th, many Thai people flocked to tattoo parlors to choose this special way of commemorating the deceased.

Skin Art tattoo shop in Pattaya reports around 50 customers a day. Sak Lai Tattoo shop in central Bangkok also reports similar numbers, with customers mainly choosing tattoos symbolizing King Adulyadej as well as the number 9, representing his status as the 9th king of the Chakri dynasty, which lasted over 234 years in Thailand.

Sak Lai Tattoo shop owner Esara Usada said: "This is a way to express and record the story of love and loyalty to King Adulyadej that each Thai person has."

Currently, the price for a tattoo in Thailand is typically around 2,000 baht (approximately 1.2 million VND), however, tattoos related to King Adulyadej will only cost half the usual price, Mr. Esara added.

Piyaphan Phanwiroj, a Thai army officer, also chose a tattoo to commemorate King Adulyadej. He chose the inscription to be tattooed on the back of his neck: "I was born during the reign of King Rama IX."

Piyaphan said, "The tattoos don't just express love. They also represent respect and loyalty. They will remind me to do more for my country. And whenever I feel despair, they will remind me of all of King Adulyadej's contributions to the Thai people."

Mr. Usada also shared that another popular tattoo often chosen by clients is the famous quote of King Adulyadej: "I will be a humble servant to the people all my life."
