The unemployment rate among the working-age population is estimated at 2.31%, an increase of 0.21% compared to 2014. Of this, unemployment among those aged 25 and over increased by 1.27%.
Conversely, the unemployment rate among Vietnamese youth aged 15-24 increased rapidly to 6.85%, 0.55% higher than in 2014. Of this, the unemployment rate among urban youth was particularly high at 11.2%, while in rural areas it was 5.2%. Thus, the youth unemployment rate was nearly 2.5 times higher than the national average.
Earlier, in the third quarter, the youth unemployment rate surged to 7.3%, more than three times the national unemployment rate.
Regarding the reasons for the high youth unemployment rate, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Director of the Institute of Labor and Social Sciences, stated: "This is understandable, as this is the time when students graduate. The figures show the positive aspects of training and recruitment, but also the pressure from the labor market when this workforce cannot adapt to find jobs after graduation."
