A dedicated and responsible militia assistant in the "rice-growing region".
In the "Determined to Win" emulation movement of the armed forces of Nghe An province in recent years, Major Dang Quang Ngoc (born in 1978) - Assistant to the militia and self-defense force of the Military Command of Yen Thanh district - is a prime example. The people of this "rice-growing" region know him for his dedication, enthusiasm, and responsibility in his work, always successfully completing all assigned tasks.
Dedicated to every task
At the end of May, Yen Thanh district successfully completed its intensive training campaign, achieving and exceeding many of its planned targets. Sharing his thoughts on this achievement, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Minh Quy, Deputy Political Commissar of the Yen Thanh District Military Command, stated that this result significantly contributes to building a comprehensive national defense posture and establishing a strong defense zone in the new situation. While this was a collective effort, the role of Major Dang Quang Ngoc, Assistant Militia Officer of the District Military Command, was particularly crucial.
Because Comrade Ngoc is primarily responsible for training and education in national defense and security, the planning, command, and implementation have been conducted scientifically and rigorously from the outset. Since 2018, since working in Yen Thanh and assuming the role of militia assistant, Major Dang Quang Ngoc has consistently performed his assigned duties well.
Few people know that, during his nearly 30 years in the military, he spent over 13 years working in the Central Highlands provinces. Following that, he spent almost 7 years as a Branch Assistant at the Military Command of Quy Hop District. Because he held many different positions and served in numerous military locations, his experience and expertise are invaluable.
Upon his transfer to Yen Thanh district in early 2018, his dynamism and creativity were clearly demonstrated through his advice and implementation of solutions to enhance the overall strength of the local militia force. As a result, all village militia leaders in the district received excellent ideological training and matured through practical experience, becoming outstanding individuals who joined the ranks of the Party. Thanks to this, almost all 338 village militia leaders in the district are now Party members.
These village militia leaders also take on the important task of maintaining and ensuring that each hamlet has two exemplary individuals in the local militia force. Thanks to this, the militia force throughout the district consistently reaches over 3,200 people, with its quality continuously improving.
Deeply aware that providing accurate and practical advice is an extremely important task in local defense and military affairs, Major Dang Quang Ngoc, in addition to understanding and grasping the characteristics and situation of the locality, always proactively studies documents and guidelines from superiors; analyzes the situation and the course of action to advise the Party Committee and unit commanders on appropriate and effective measures.
Every year, when the Provincial Military Command organizes competitions and sports events related to the militia and self-defense forces, he is always entrusted by the Party Committee and the Command to take charge of organizing, managing, maintaining training, and participating in the competitions, achieving many good results.
With unwavering dedication, Major Dang Quang Ngoc has consistently maintained the title of Outstanding Soldier at the grassroots level and Outstanding Soldier of the entire army for many consecutive years. In 2022, he was awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the Minister of National Defense for his many achievements in his work, contributing to the building of the Army, strengthening national defense, and protecting the Fatherland. In 2024, he received a Certificate of Commendation for being an exemplary Party member who "excellently completed his duties" from the Party Committee of Nghe An province and a Certificate of Merit from the Provincial Military Command for excellently completing his assigned tasks.
Do a good job in mass mobilization work.
Even now, many people in the "rice-growing region" still vividly remember the heartbreaking accident that occurred on March 24th, when a resident unfortunately slipped and fell into the river, resulting in drowning and disappearance in the canal section flowing through Bac Thanh commune.
In that situation, Major Dang Quang Ngoc immediately reported to the unit's leadership to deploy a search plan for the victim. Under the involvement of Major Dang Quang Ngoc and 10 officers and staff members of the Yen Thanh District Military Command, along with the local militia, effective coordination with other forces was achieved to successfully search for the victim and hand him over to his family.
This is just one of many rescue and relief operations that the militia and self-defense forces of Yen Thanh district have successfully carried out recently. Whenever the people need them, they are always ready to step forward.
In addition, this force has also effectively implemented forest fire prevention measures. Major Dang Quang Ngoc still remembers the forest fires in the communes of Cong Thanh, My Thanh, etc., affecting dozens of hectares. On such nights, he, along with his unit and the militia, stayed up all night to extinguish the fires, aiming to safely put them out in the shortest possible time.
In particular, during the time when the entire district was struggling to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic, Mr. Ngoc and the local militia provided maximum support to the people during the rice and agricultural harvest with dedication. As a result, the Party committee, the government, and the people in the district always appreciate and highly value the efforts they have made.
Looking back on his journey, Major Dang Quang Ngoc shared his thoughts, always believing that in peacetime, the militia and self-defense forces, along with the People's Army, are the core forces in building a solid national defense posture, maintaining political security and social order in the area. In particular, they play a crucial role in preventing, combating, and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters and epidemics, in search and rescue operations, and in fulfilling assigned civil defense tasks. Therefore, Major Ngoc always strives to find effective methods and learn valuable experiences from his senior colleagues, other units, and localities to apply them appropriately.
For me, the greatest achievement is my personal growth within the armed forces. Along with camaraderie, the constant care and guidance from my unit commanders, and the increasingly strong bond between the military and the local people, these are the motivations that drive me to persevere on the path I have chosen and to successfully complete the assigned tasks..."
