Urgent dispatch regarding the remediation of the consequences of Typhoon No. 2

In recent years, adverse natural impacts such as tornadoes, rain, and storms have caused hardship for thousands of rubber plantation workers belonging to Nghe An Rubber and Coffee Company Limited. The impact of Typhoon No. 2 alone resulted in the destruction of 40 hectares of rubber trees, with estimated total losses of approximately 9 billion VND.

For many years, 1.3 hectares of rubber trees have been the main source of income for the family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoe, a worker in the Nghia Xuan team - Tay Hieu I Plantation. However, Typhoon No. 2 caused over 100 rubber trees that were ready for harvest to fall, and hundreds more were uprooted.

"The money for workers' insurance and daily living expenses all depend on the rubber trees; now that so many trees have fallen, my family doesn't know how we'll manage," shared Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoe.

Not only Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoe's family, but thousands of worker households of the Nghe An Rubber and Coffee Company are also suffering after Typhoon No. 2. Significantly, most of the damaged rubber trees were in the latex harvesting stage. In addition to the broken trees, 100% of the rubber trees in the Phu Quy red soil region suffered uprooting, severed roots, and broken branches. This will greatly affect latex production in subsequent harvests.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Hang, a worker in the Hung Nam team at Tay Hieu I Plantation, said: "The 2016 storm damaged many tall trees, and it wasn't until May or June that the trees recovered. We hadn't even had time to rejoice over the increased latex production before we were hit by typhoon number 2; and each time we face a natural disaster like this, it takes a whole year for the trees to stabilize."

Nghe An Rubber and Coffee Company Limited currently has 5 plantations including Tay Hieu I, Tay Hieu II, Tay Hieu III, Co Do and Dong Hieu plantations, managing over 2,000 hectares of rubber trees. The impact of typhoon No. 2 caused 20,000 rubber trees in their productive stage to be uprooted or broken, while those that were not broken suffered uprooting and other damage.

Tay Hieu I Plantation suffered the most damage, with over 20 hectares of rubber trees knocked down by the storm. This included over 9,000 mature rubber trees and 1,000 newly planted rubber trees.
