A Vietnamese man used 104 days' worth of salary to buy the most expensive iPhone 7.
With the lowest average income among the group studied, Vietnamese people would need 104 days' worth of salary to buy a 128GB iPhone 7, while Singaporeans would only need 7 days.
The price comparison website iPrice (based in Malaysia) recently published data regarding the selling price and affordability of the iPhone 7 in several Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam. The website compiled this data based on the retail price of the 128GB iPhone 7 from reputable retailers, then compared it to the average per capita income (assuming no other expenses and an 8-hour workday) of the countries they studied.

Data shows that Singapore is the Southeast Asian country where people can buy the iPhone 7 the fastest in the region. At $15.50 per hour, it only takes a week for residents there to purchase the new iPhone. However, compared to the US, Singapore still lags behind, as the country only takes 4 days ($22 per hour) to own Apple's ninth-generation smartphone.

Meanwhile, Vietnam had the longest time to save up for an iPhone 7 among the countries studied. At $1.20 per hour, Vietnamese people needed 104 days to buy the new iPhone. Following them were Indonesia ($87 days, $1.80 per hour), the Philippines ($71 days, $2.40 per hour), Thailand ($69 days, $2.40 per hour), and Malaysia ($24 days, $4.80 per hour).
However, these figures are believed to be influenced by regional pricing. Singapore, a country with a high per capita income, has an iPhone 7 priced from only $897. In contrast, Thailand and Indonesia, with lower per capita incomes, have prices as high as $1,340 and $1,268 respectively.
iPrice only included these six countries in its statistics, and it's unclear why the company didn't include other Southeast Asian countries like Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and East Timor in this data.
