Vietnamese invented anti-mistake accelerator pedal
For about 4 million, Vietnamese drivers can have a set of anti-misapplication accelerator and brake pedals with an optional On/Off switch.
Based on the fact that there are many cases of mistakenly pressing the accelerator pedal for the brake pedal when driving a car, especially with automatic transmission cars, Mr. Nguyen Long Uy Bao and his friends in Saigon invented a system to limit the risk when the driver mistakenly presses the accelerator pedal, which was granted patent number 14087 by the Intellectual Property Office on May 18.
This system consists of mechanical parts and electronic microcircuits combined together, which will react by directly affecting the brake pedal when the driver accidentally steps on the accelerator pedal with too much force (or the accelerator pedal moves too quickly), helping to minimize risks and accidents caused by the vehicle accelerating out of control.

Specifically, the system takes power directly from the battery with very small capacity, does not affect other electrical systems on the car such as power steering, ABS, ECU. The structure includes a sensor that measures the accelerator pedal speed, transmits information to the microprocessor, from there commands an automatic brake lever to pull the brake pedal down to limit speed, and at the same time emits a sound and warning light.
In case the driver is accelerating, that is, the accelerator pedal exceeds the sensor's monitoring threshold, but suddenly presses the accelerator pedal all the way to the floor, there is an additional switch at the floor position. At that time, the accelerator pedal acts on the switch, which will give an automatic braking response similar to the information from the sensor.
With this system, the driver can actively choose to turn it on or off with a push of a button. Therefore, for drivers who like a sporty driving style or need to step on the gas to overtake other vehicles on the highway, it will not be affected, because just turn off the system and the car will return to normal as originally designed.
Mr. Uy Bao said that he installed this technology on a Ford Escape with a 3-liter engine to test on public roads and the results were exactly as designed.
A Ford technical expert said that to truly apply this technology successfully on commercial vehicles, it is necessary to install this technology and test it in many different types of terrain and driving conditions, because in each situation, the driver must operate the accelerator and brake pedals accordingly. This technology is almost not applied by any car manufacturer or spare parts manufacturer.
The anti-mistake accelerator system can be designed to suit individual needs, for example, strong braking like sudden braking or just a moderate force to gradually slow down, reminding the driver. The price for a set of anti-mistake accelerator is about 4 million VND.
