Nguyen Thai Son successfully underwent surgery for ligament and meniscus injuries.
Midfielder Nguyen Thai Son has completed major knee surgery following a serious incident on his debut day with Ninh Binh FC, and is expected to need 7-9 months to fully recover.
Nguyen Thai Son, a promising midfielder in Vietnamese football, has just announced good news after successfully undergoing surgery to treat a right knee injury. This is considered an important milestone, helping the former Thanh Hoa player begin his recovery journey to regain his peak form after the unfortunate incident in the V.League.
Serious injury on debut day
An unfortunate incident occurred during Thai Son's debut match for Ninh Binh FC in Round 12 of the V.League. After just 10 minutes of play against Hanoi Police FC, the midfielder, born in 2003, had to leave the field due to a serious knee problem.
Subsequent in-depth medical examinations confirmed that Thai Son had completely torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), along with tears in both the medial and lateral menisci. Given the severity of the injury, doctors predicted he would be sidelined for an extended period, ranging from 7 to 9 months, to ensure the joint structure stabilizes.
A strong determination to recover
Immediately after his recovery following surgery, Thai Son shared an emotional post on his personal page. He expressed his deep gratitude to the Ninh Binh Club's leadership, the medical team, as well as his family and fans who had always supported him during this difficult period.
"I will strictly adhere to the recovery process and strive to return to the pitch in the best possible condition as soon as possible. See you all on the pitch soon," the young midfielder affirmed his determination to make a strong comeback.
Roadmap for returning to the pitch
According to the plan, Thai Son will soon return to Ninh Binh Club's headquarters to begin his rehabilitation training program following a specialized curriculum. The club is committed to providing maximum support in terms of medical and psychological conditions for the player.
Based on the standard recovery schedule for ligament surgeries, the "running machine" of the Vietnam U23 team is expected to return to the pitch by the end of 2026. Thai Son's ability to maintain an optimistic spirit after the major setback is considered a crucial factor in ensuring a smoother recovery process.
