In the years 1930-1931, workers in factories and farmers in the surrounding areas of Vinh - Ben Thuy stood up together to fight for higher wages, shorter working hours, and abolishing poll taxes, starting the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930-1931). Among them was comrade Nguyen Thi Due - an outstanding daughter of heroic Ben Thuy, the Traffic Captain of the Central Region Party Committee.

In Vinh - Ben Thuy, factory workers and farmers in the surrounding areas stood up together to fight for higher wages, shorter working hours, and the abolition of poll taxes, starting the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement (1930-1931). This was a brilliant milestone in the golden history of our Party. Many outstanding children of Nghe An homeland grew up from this movement, including comrade Nguyen Thi Due - an outstanding child of heroic Ben Thuy, the Traffic Captain of the Central Region Party Committee.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Due was born in 1910 in Yen Dung Ha village, Yen Truong commune, Hung Nguyen district (now Ben Thuy ward, Vinh city), Nghe An province. Growing up in a life of hardship, orphaned at an early age, Nguyen Thi Due had to work for hire at the Ben Thuy Match Factory at the age of 17.

During that period, the Ben Thuy Match Factory was expanded and became one of the two largest factories in Vinh - Ben Thuy town. The number of workers in the factory reached more than a thousand, including many groups: men, women, youth and children. Of which, only a small group worked on machines, the majority did heavy manual labor. Women working here suffered in many ways. They were not only beaten, cursed, and fined, but also had to endure teasing, taunting, and touching by the supervisors and clerks. It was that suffering that formed in Nguyen Thi Due and many other women of the same age the determination to liberate themselves and their homeland.

On July 14, 1925, on Con Meo Mountain, Vinh - Ben Thuy, the Phuc Viet Association was born, attracting many patriotic youths to participate. Nguyen Thi Due and some comrades working in the Match Factory such as Le Mao, Le Doan Suu, Le Viet Thuat ... enthusiastically participated in the struggle movement and activities organized by the Association.

Under the leadership of the Association, the movement to demand amnesty for Phan Boi Chau and the movement to demand mourning for Phan Chu Trinh became large demonstrations, awakening the national spirit in Nguyen Thi Due and female workers in the factories.

Nguyen Thi Due quickly matured, actively participated in campaigns, called on workers and peasants to fight and officially embarked on the thorny path of revolutionary activities. To keep secrets and disguise herself from the enemy, Nguyen Thi Due used the aliases: Vy, Thanh, Suu.

On April 11, 1928, under the leadership of Tan Viet Party members, workers at the Match Factory and Sawmill united to protest against the employer's unreasonable dismissal of workers, demanding an increase in wages and a reduction in working hours. As a result, the factory owner was forced to increase wages for all workers by 5 cents per day. The struggle was successful, Nguyen Thi Due was even more trusted and admired by the factory workers and was elected Team Leader.

In February 1930, Nguyen Thi Due was appointed to the Struggle Committee, responsible for propaganda among workers. On April 5, 1930, under the direct leadership of comrade Le Mao (Secretary of the Vinh Provincial Party Committee), the Match Factory Committee met to discuss mobilizing workers to support relief for striking workers at the Nam Dinh Textile Factory, and at the same time discussed responding to the Central Party's call to launch a nationwide struggle movement to celebrate International Labor Day on May 1. As a party member in charge of propaganda, mobilization and development of the revolutionary forces of Vinh - Ben Thuy workers, Nguyen Thi Due worked enthusiastically day and night, regularly organizing and mobilizing women to fight more and more enthusiastically.

In preparation for the struggle to celebrate International Labor Day on May 1, 1930, Vinh Provincial Party Committee held a meeting and assigned comrade Le Mao to directly command the workers of the factories in Vinh - Ben Thuy area and decided that each factory would have its own command committee. Nguyen Thi Due was appointed to the leadership committee of the Match Factory and became an official member of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The May 1, 1930 struggle broke out with the participation of many workers at the Match Factory and became the opening struggle of the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement. From that initial flame, the people's struggle movement quickly spread to communes, wards, and districts, disintegrating the puppet government apparatus. The Soviet government was established in many places in the two provinces of Nghe An and Ha Tinh. Mass organizations such as the Red Trade Union, the Women's Liberation Union, the Communist Youth Union, etc. were all born one after another and developed strongly.

Comrade Le Doan Suu (member of Vinh Provincial Party Committee) directly assigned the task of mobilizing and building the organization force of the Women's Liberation Association to comrades Nguyen Thi Due and Nguyen Thi Nhuan. With the propaganda and support of Ms. Due, more and more female workers in factories joined the Association. They actively participated in social activities such as meetings, donating money and clothes, helping each other and were excited and confident in the leadership of the Party.

During this time, the revolutionary movement of the masses was growing stronger, the enemy was monitoring and hunting more closely. On October 14, 1930, Nguyen Thi Due was arrested by secret police and imprisoned in Vinh prison. During more than 4 months of detention, tortured with all kinds of torture, she remained calm and determined not to confess. Due to lack of evidence, they were forced to release her, chased her out of the match factory and ordered secret police to secretly monitor her.

After being released from prison, Nguyen Thi Due immediately got to work. With her intelligence, agility and courage, the female traffic and communications officer of the Central Region Party Committee - Nguyen Thi Due disguised herself as a fruit seller, skillfully overcame all difficulties, and promptly transported Party leaflets, documents and newspapers to the bases. Thanks to that, the communication line from the Central Region Party Committee office to the Party bases was connected.

From April 24-29, 1931, the Central Region Party Committee Conference was held at Bo Temple (Loc Da Village) chaired by Comrade Nguyen Phong Sac (Secretary of the Central Region Party Committee) to report on the revolutionary situation since the beginning of 1930 and the implementation of the Resolution of the Party Central Committee, the Central Region Party Committee Executive Committee and the Resolution of the provinces implementing the policies of the superiors... Comrade Nguyen Thi Due attended the conference to receive instructions and continue to lead the revolutionary movement in the new period.

After the conference, the leading comrades of the Regional and Provincial Party Committees such as Nguyen Phong Sac, Le Mao and many other comrades were caught in the enemy's net and sacrificed. At this time, the District and Provincial Party Committees had to retreat into the mountains and forests to operate secretly, preserving their forces. Comrade Le Viet Thuat replaced Nguyen Phong Sac as Secretary of the Central Regional Party Committee, working in a secret cave on De Thap Street.

Comrade Nguyen Thi Due (Secretary of the Ben Thuy Regional Party Committee) with the alias Suu often went back and forth to report on the movement and received instructions from the Secretary to pass on to the Party bases. On December 7, 1931, while having a meeting at a secret base on De Thap Street, Comrade Le Viet Thuat and Nguyen Thi Due were arrested by secret police and taken to Vinh prison.

The second time she was imprisoned in Vinh prison, the French colonialists used many sinister tricks and extremely barbaric tortures, but still could not shake the iron spirit and steadfast loyalty to the Party of the daughter of Ben Thuy - Nguyen Thi Due. On January 8, 1932, the Southern Court of Nghe An province sentenced Nguyen Thi Due to life imprisonment. In March 1934, on the occasion of King Bao Dai's wedding, they issued an order to reduce the sentences of political prisoners, and Nguyen Thi Due and many other comrades were released.

After being released from prison, Nguyen Thi Due and her husband Nguyen Van Vy (Standing Committee Member of Ben Thuy Regional Party Committee) continued to actively participate in revolutionary activities. Le Viet Thuat Military Arsenal, together with the great contributions of Nguyen Thi Due and her husband, made a significant contribution to the Patriotic Emulation movement during the period when the whole country was both fighting against the war and building the nation...

Nguyen Thi Due - an outstanding daughter of the heroic Ben Thuy homeland, the Traffic and Communications Team Leader of the Central Region Party Committee, devoted her entire life to the noble communist ideals, women's liberation and national liberation. Following the example of Soviet female soldier Nguyen Thi Due, there have been countless sisters who "died for the Fatherland and lived for the Fatherland" with the nation to overcome two resistance wars against the French colonialists and the invading American imperialists, regaining independence and freedom for the homeland and the country. They have written the glorious history of our Party, worthy of being the descendants of Ba Trung and Ba Trieu; worthy of the eight golden words that beloved Uncle Ho bestowed upon them: "Heroic, indomitable, loyal, and courageous".
