Where is the North-South high-speed railway station located in Nghe An province?
This is a question that has been raised by many people in recent days, following the release of the Pre-feasibility Study Report for the North-South High-Speed Railway Project.
According to the pre-feasibility study report for the North-South High-Speed Railway Project, by the TEDI - TRICC - TEDI SOUTH consulting consortium, the planned high-speed railway line, passing through Nghe An and 19 other provinces and cities, will have a length of 1,541 km, with 23 passenger stations and 5 freight stations. Of these, Ngoc Hoi station (Hanoi) and Vung Ang station (Ha Tinh) will serve as both passenger and freight stations, so overall there will only be 26 stations.

The placement of passenger terminals will be based on the following principles: alignment with the current situation and development plans of the locality; location in the economic and political centers of the localities, proximity to urban centers, and planned areas with the potential to create new development spaces, effectively utilizing land resources (from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, there are 19 cities with a population of 500,000 or more, including 2 special cities and 17 type I cities); ensuring good connectivity with the public transport system; and ensuring efficient utilization of infrastructure and facilities.

According to the research report, the project will start at Ngoc Hoi station in Thanh Tri district, Hanoi, and will consider options for operating high-speed trains to Hanoi station. The end point for passenger trains will be Thu Thiem station in An Phu ward, Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City; for freight trains, the end point will be Trang Bom station in Dong Nai province.

In Nghe An, the high-speed railway line, after crossing Mong Ga mountain, in the border area between Nghi Son town (Thanh Hoa) and Hoang Mai town, enters Nghe An province. After that, the line basically runs parallel to the east of the highway. When passing through Cau Giat area (Quynh Luu), the line tends to move closer to the existing railway line, crossing Than Vu mountain, and heading west of the Vinh bypass.

Since Nghe An province is only allowed one passenger station, the station will be located west of Vinh City, between the expressway and the current Vinh bypass. The line will then cross the Lam River and enter Ha Tinh province.

According to the Nghe An Department of Transport, Vinh Station on the North-South high-speed railway line will be located between the expressway and the Vinh bypass. It will also be situated between National Highway 46 and the 72m road, in Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district. This area serves as a key hub connecting many vital transportation routes, contributing to the province's socio-economic development. The location is also close to the interchange between the North-South expressway and National Highway 46; near the VSIP industrial park and urban area; and approximately 4.7km from the current Vinh Station.

From the station's location, passengers can travel to the center of Vinh City and go straight to Cua Lo via the 72m road or National Highway 46. If this project is implemented, it will certainly create momentum for the economic and social development of the locality.
