North Korean state news agency KCNA reported on December 29 that leader Kim Jong-un announced a strategy for “the toughest counterattack” against the United States, as well as promoting the development of relations with friendly countries.
The KCNA said the statement was made during the 11th plenary meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, which took place from December 23 to 27. The meeting reviewed the results of 2024 and discussed the tasks the state must tackle in 2025.
The plenary session also laid out the country's strategic goals to secure the "foreign stage of the Korean revolution" through active foreign policy actions, KCNA said.
“In the final part of his speech, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un made clear the toughest countermeasure strategy against the United States that the DPRK must actively initiate for its long-term national interests and security,” KCNA reported.
According to the agency, the North Korean leader outlined that, within the strategic framework, the task in the foreign affairs field is to actively fight to protect national sovereignty on the principle of protecting state interests. The countermeasure strategy also includes actively promoting relations with friendly countries.
