The Convallaria development team, part of the China Hero Project, accuses Sony of a lack of support and a deliberate attempt to seize control of the PlayStation 5 shooter game.

The relationship between Sony and game developers in China is facing new tensions as the number of game projects for PS4 and PS5 in that market reaches record levels. Recently, the developer of the shooter game Convallaria publicly accused the Japanese tech giant of a lack of support and intentions to take over the project.

Conflict at the PlayStation China Hero Project

Convallaria is one of the key projects under the PlayStation China Hero Project – Sony's initiative to encourage Chinese game developers to expand into the international market. However, the developers behind the game say they have not received the necessary support as initially promised by Sony.

More notably, the development team also claimed that after a long period of neglecting the project, Sony had sought to "take over" and gain complete control of Convallaria. This action was seen as an attempt to turn the game into an internal asset of the company instead of a collaborative product with an independent studio.

Pressure from the surge in game projects in China.

Currently, the number of Chinese games under development for the PS4 and PS5 systems is at an all-time high. This demonstrates Sony's ambition to tap into the creative potential of the country. However, recurring conflicts with local studios are raising questions about the sustainability of this collaborative model.

Convallaria developers expressed disappointment that the collaboration with PlayStation did not go as smoothly as expected. Management and development direction issues are believed to be the main reasons for the rift between the two parties. This incident may make other independent studios in China more cautious about participating in support programs from international tech giants.

Although Sony has not yet officially responded to these allegations, the matter is attracting significant attention from the gaming community and industry experts, especially in the context of the increasingly fierce competition for exclusive console content.
