In the media, the name of historian Le Van Lan is sometimes accompanied with the title of professor, sometimes with the title of associate professor.

It is known that historian Le Van Lan was recognized with a scientific position according to Decision No. 81-HDBT, dated May 28, 1984 on Recognition of Scientific Positions (Phase II) of the Council of Ministers, signed by then Chairman of the Council of Ministers Pham Van Dong.

This decision clearly states:

“Pursuant to Decision No. 162-CP dated September 11, 1976 of the Government Council on the system of scientific positions and standards for scientific positions in the field of university teaching and scientific research;

Pursuant to Decision No. 271-CP dated October 1, 1977 of the Government Council on recognizing the positions of professor and associate professor in the field of university teaching and scientific research;

At the request of the ministers and heads of sectors with universities and research institutes and of the Chairman of the Central Review Council,

DECISION:

Article 1. The scientific title of professor is now recognized for 117 cadres and associate professor for 898 cadres working in university teaching and scientific research (list attached).

Article 2. After this recognition, a State Scientific Position Review Council will be established to assist the Chairman of the Council of Ministers in regularly managing the recognition of scientific positions for cadres working in university teaching and scientific research.

Article 3. The Ministers, General Secretary of the Council of Ministers, Ministers of relevant Ministries, Chairman of the Central Review Council and the officials named in the attached list are responsible for implementing this decision.

The list of officials recognized for scientific positions is divided into two parts: Part A is the position of level II professor with an open parenthesis stating that it is Professor. Part B is the position of level I professor with an open parenthesis stating that it is Associate Professor.
