Poet Duong Ky Anh (Duong Xuan Nam) passed away
Journalist and poet Duong Xuan Nam - father of the Miss Vietnam contest, passed away at the age of 77.
Poet Duong Xuan Nam was born in 1948 in Xuyen Cam village (now Tran Phu village) Ky Xuan, Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province. He is a poet, writer, journalist, former Editor-in-Chief of Tien Phong newspaper, member of the Vietnam Writers Association.
In 1972, after graduating from the University of Literature, he joined the Vietnam People's Army as a missile control officer. In 1975, he worked at Tien Phong Newspaper until his retirement.
He is one of the rare Vietnamese poets and journalists whose name is listed in the dictionary "World Cultural Celebrities" (Asia-Pacific region).

Poet Duong Xuan Nam is known as the initiator of the Tien Phong Newspaper Miss Pageant, the predecessor of the current Miss Vietnam Pageant, so he is called "The Father of Vietnamese Miss Pageants". He held the role of Head of the Organizing Committee and Chairman of the Jury of the Miss Vietnam Pageants from 1988 to 2008.
When writing prose and poetry, he took the pen name of his hometown - Duong Ky Anh (Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province).
