“Security, location, neutrality,” the official said.
He noted that the summit would last "one day, with the possibility of extension".
Raj Shah, deputy White House spokesman, told reporters it was not yet known whether Trump and Kim would talk alone or in an expanded format.
"Singapore can ensure the security of both presidents," Shah said, responding that the first meeting between China and Taiwan was held in Singapore. The details of the summit still need to be worked out, he added.
Donald Trump tweeted on Thursday that his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un will be held on June 12 in Singapore.
