Sentenced to death, former teacher from Nghe An province hopes to donate his organs.

The Hanoi City People's Court recently brought defendant Ho Xuan Long (born in 1958, Nghe An province) to trial for the crime of illegally transporting narcotics.

Earlier, at 2:45 AM on September 23, 2019, Hanoi police officers on duty at the Nuoc Ngam bus station spotted Long getting off a passenger bus, carrying a brown briefcase, and exhibiting suspicious behavior.

The task force inspected and seized over 1,762 grams of drugs from the briefcase that Long was carrying. According to Long's statement to the investigating agency, around mid-May 2019, he was working in the quarrying business in Quy Hop district, Nghe An province, where he met a young man, about 25 years old, whose name and address he did not know.

This person proposed hiring the defendant to transport heroin from Nghe An to Hanoi. Long agreed, promising to call when needed. In mid-August 2019, the young man called, hiring Long to transport two blocks of heroin from Yen Ly intersection, Nghe An to Hanoi, promising that someone would receive them and pay 15 million VND per block.

After receiving the "goods," Long took a bus from Nghe An to Hanoi to deliver the drugs to a man around 40 years old, whose name and address were unknown, and received a payment of 30 million VND. On September 20, 2019, the young man called Long again to hire him to transport 5 blocks of heroin from Nghe An to Nuoc Ngam bus station.

Two days later, at 7:45 PM, Long went to the meeting point at Yen Ly intersection, met the young man who received the "goods," put them in a black briefcase, and then took a bus to Hanoi.

Despite his appearance as an officer with a briefcase in hand, Long couldn't fool the detectives. Before he could deliver the "goods" and receive his payment, the police raided and arrested him along with the evidence. The indictment alleges that there was only enough evidence to conclude that Long illegally transported 5 blocks of heroin on September 23, 2019.

It is known that the defendant Long was formerly a teacher, and later transferred to the Department of Education and Training of Con Cuong district.

For stealing socialist property, Long was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1997. His sentence was reduced, he was released from prison in January 2012, and he fell back into a life of crime.

For the crimes committed as described, Long was sentenced to death by the court. Upon receiving the death sentence, the defendant stated that he wished to donate his organs.
