Human resources are the key to a successful startup.
On December 11th, the 6th Vietnam Human Resources Day – 2016 was held in Hanoi, with the theme "Human Resource Management in the Startup Phase".
The impressive figures of over 100,000 newly established businesses and more than 20,000 businesses resuming operations this year mark a milestone in the government's policy of creating a favorable environment for startups.

Over 1,000 delegates, including business leaders, managers, heads of human resources departments, and human resources consultants, attended the event. This is a particularly significant activity for the Vietnamese human resources community, held annually on a nationwide scale. The event was organized by EduViet Corporation, a Vietnamese education consulting organization, in collaboration with the Vietnam Young Entrepreneurs Association, the National Startup Association, and the Vietnam Human Resources Forum HRLink.vn.
In his opening remarks at Vietnam Human Resources Day 2016, Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quan, founder and head of the event's organizing committee, stated: "In recent years, entrepreneurship has received significant attention from the State, the government, and the Vietnamese business community. We witnessed the first wave of startups in the early 1990s, which became even stronger in the early 21st century and will play a driving role in economic development in the coming years."
The impressive figures of over 100,000 newly established businesses and more than 20,000 businesses resuming operations this year mark a milestone in the government's policy of creating a favorable environment for startups. In particular, on October 16th, the Prime Minister launched the "Youth Entrepreneurship" program for the period 2016-2021 and the Youth Entrepreneurship Festival as part of the national startup year activities.
Therefore, the Vietnam Human Resources Day 2016 event, with the theme "Human Resource Management in the Startup Phase," was organized in conjunction with the National Startup Year, aiming to enhance the capacity of entrepreneurs and startup businesses; and to help startup businesses overcome obstacles in human resource management.
Associate Professor, Dr. Le Quan shared: Entrepreneurship and human resources always go hand in hand. Most reasons for the failure of the startup process stem from the fact that the capabilities do not meet the requirements of the business owner.
Starting a business is not a "game," nor is it an "experience." It's a process that combines individuals and organizations. Establishing and developing a business is both the product and the means of the entrepreneurial process. Therefore, in addition to professional, technological, and technical skills, business management, organizational management, and human resource management skills are crucial keys to ensuring the success of a startup business.
Becoming a manager in a large enterprise, especially a foreign-owned one, does not necessarily provide management experience for a domestic entrepreneur. This is because large enterprises often have well-structured, segmented, and organized business processes. Meanwhile, entrepreneurship requires business owners to have a systems thinking mindset to develop their company's competitiveness and attract investors. Globalization demands that each entrepreneur and business manager be different, focusing on creating added value through high-quality human resources and establishing a suitable corporate culture.
At Vietnam Human Resources Day 2016, experts and business leaders exchanged and shared valuable lessons and stories about human resource management in the startup phase; and held in-depth discussions on specific issues such as: designing a human resource management system for startups; recruitment, training, and relevant laws…
According to experts, businesses are currently facing many difficulties and challenges in the process of international integration, and there is a lack of innovative startups. Therefore, in the coming time, the national startup strategy needs to focus on creating an environment to develop the entrepreneurial spirit and business acumen of young people from the secondary school level. This should emphasize developing entrepreneurship as a solution to create jobs for oneself and others, as well as creating wealth for society.
