According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department, Vietnam's wheat imports in the first 10 months of 2025 recorded a decrease in all three criteria: volume, value, and average value compared to the same period of the previous year.
Overview of the wheat market for the first 10 months of 2025
Specifically, total wheat imports reached nearly 4.73 million tons, equivalent to a value of over $1.26 billion. Compared to the first 10 months of 2024, import volume decreased by 5.7%, value decreased by 8.3%, and the average import price decreased by 2.7%, fluctuating at around $267.1 per ton.
Notably, in October 2025 alone, import activity saw a strong surge. The volume of goods imported reached 533,201 tons (a 42.8% increase compared to September 2025) with a value of US$141.75 million. The average import price in this month reached US$265.9/ton, a slight increase of 0.5% compared to the previous month.
Analyzing developments in key markets
Australia is currently the largest supplier, accounting for 25.7% of the total volume and 26.4% of the total value of Vietnam's imports. In the first 10 months of the year, Vietnam imported 1.22 million tons of wheat from this market, worth over US$333 million. Notably, in October 2025, imports from Australia surged by 2,049% compared to September 2025.

In contrast to the upward trend in Australia and the US, the Brazilian market recorded a significant decline. In the first 10 months of 2025, imports from Brazil reached 989,002 tons, a decrease of 15.8% in volume and 13.2% in value compared to the same period last year. Notably, in October 2025, Vietnam continued to have no wheat import transactions from this market.
The US market showed the most impressive growth in volume with 745,346 tons, a sharp increase of 66.6% compared to the first 10 months of 2024, accounting for approximately 15.8% of the country's total imports. However, the average import price from the US decreased by 11.9%, to $272.9 per ton.
