Sportswear maker ASICS and Japanese telecommunications company NTT are developing a new shirt that can help protect wearers from heatstroke.

A small sensor attached to the back of the shirt will monitor the wearer's heart rate, body temperature, as well as the humidity inside the shirt and the outdoor temperature. This data is then transmitted to the wearer's smartphone, allowing them to self-check their physical condition. If the device detects a risk of heatstroke, it will notify the wearer.

The two companies are currently working on improving the accuracy of the heatstroke protection vest, which is expected to be put into use at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In the future, the shirt is expected to reduce heatstroke in people who have to work outdoors a lot, as well as the elderly and children.
