Japanese sportswear manufacturer ASICS and telecommunications company NTT are developing a new type of shirt that can help wearers avoid heatstroke.

A small sensor attached to the back of the jacket monitors the wearer's heart rate, body temperature, as well as the moisture level inside the jacket and the outside temperature. This data is then transmitted to the wearer's smartphone, allowing them to self-monitor their physical condition. If the device detects a risk of heatstroke, it will notify the wearer.

The two companies are currently continuing to improve the accuracy of the heatstroke prevention vest. It is expected that the vest will begin to be used at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In the future, the shirt is expected to reduce the incidence of heatstroke in people who work outdoors, as well as the elderly and children.
