(Baonghean.vn) - After finding a package of drugs hidden in the bushes along the riverbank, Lo Thi Chien (residing in Tuong Duong district, Nghe An province) took it home and hid it. She was arrested by the police while selling it to a customer.

On March 23, the Provincial People's Court held a first-instance criminal trial to hear the case of Lo Thi Chien (born in 1967), residing in Minh Phuong village, Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong district), on the charge of "illegally trading narcotics".

According to the indictment, on the afternoon of December 7, 2019, Chien waded across the river to collect firewood when he discovered a black plastic bag in the bushes. Upon opening it, he found seven packages of drugs, including four packages of methamphetamine, two packages of heroin, and one package of crystal meth (total weight nearly 120 grams). Chien took them home and hid them in the chicken coop, waiting for an opportunity to sell them. In the early morning of December 11, 2019, a customer called to inquire about buying drugs, and Chien arranged to meet at the edge of the village for the transaction. While showing the goods to the customer, the Con Cuong District Police discovered and arrested him.

At the trial, Lo Thi Chien admitted to the crime as charged in the indictment. Chien stated that due to difficult family circumstances, her husband had passed away, and she was raising a sick child. Therefore, when she found the drugs, she succumbed to greed and hid them to sell. In 2007, Lo Thi Chien was sentenced to 7 years in prison by the Nghe An Provincial People's Court for the same crime.

Considering the aggravating and mitigating circumstances, the court sentenced Lo Thi Chien to 20 years in prison.
