A professional female instructor and a male tourist died after participating in a skydiving trip in western Nevada, USA.

The bodies of the two victims were found on the morning of August 3 near Minden-Tahoe Airport in western Nevada, USA, the New York Times reported.

According to initial investigations, the tourist and his female guide were participating in a tandem parachute jump from a plane near Lake Tahoe, at an altitude of approximately 3,810 meters. Both were equipped with harnesses to a shared parachute. They also had a spare parachute. However, investigators have not yet disclosed whether the parachute was deployed in time or if there was any technical malfunction.

Police Chief Coverley shared: "It's terrible that someone who came here to relax and have fun had such a tragedy happen."

Dave Chrouch, director of Skydive Lake Tahoe, said, “Ashlie Caceras is a highly experienced skydiving instructor. She has performed at least 1,500 skydives. We don’t understand what happened.”

Police and the company are investigating the cause of the accident. The company's most recent skydiving accident was in 2008, when its co-founder, Wes Harberts, died after failing to open his parachute.

According to the American skydiving association, 2016 saw 21 fatal accidents related to the sport out of a total of 3.2 million jumps.
