Children's competition day 5: The "battle" for a place in the quarterfinals.
On the fifth day of competition, eight matches of the Round of 16, the knockout stage of the Nghe An Newspaper and Radio & Television Cup Youth and Children's Football Tournament, took place on the Children's Stadium. The teams delivered exciting, dramatic, and determined performances in their quest to secure the first tickets to the quarterfinals.

Emotional chases for the lead.
On the morning of June 11th, the opening match of the Round of 16 took place between the Thanh Vinh Children's team (first in Group A) and the Quynh Thang Children's team (second in Group B). Before the match, the Thanh Vinh team was considered the stronger side due to their impressive performance in the group stage and the presence of many players with good individual skills.
Just five minutes into the match, Thanh Vinh's number 6, Dinh Khoi, scored with a long-range shot that found the back of the net against Quynh Thang's team, giving them a 1-0 lead. Only three minutes later, the score was doubled when Quynh Thang's number 3 scored an own goal.
Having conceded a goal early on, Quynh Thang team regrouped and launched an attack to try and reduce the deficit. In the 13th minute, Le Vinh received the ball, dribbled past the defender and goalkeeper of Thanh Vinh team, and decisively put the ball into the net. The score was reduced to 2-1, which was also the score at halftime.
In the second half, immediately after the kick-off, number 10 Duc Phat shot the ball from midfield straight into the net of Quynh Thang Children's team, increasing the score to 3-1. In the 24th minute, Thanh Vinh Children's team added another goal from Dang Khoi, extending their lead to 3 goals. A few minutes later, Duc Phat scored two consecutive goals, completing a hat-trick and bringing the final score to 6-1.
Despite leading by a large margin, Thanh Vinh Children's team continued to launch attacks, accelerating their offensive moves and creating numerous dangerous situations. For most of the second half, the ball remained in Quynh Thang's half of the field, and the players in blue struggled against the opponent's relentless attacks.
In the final minutes of the match, player number 5 scored a brace, narrowing the score to 6-2 for Quynh Thang Children's Team. This was also the final score of the match. With this victory, Thanh Vinh Children's Team became the first team to secure a place in the quarterfinals.
The second match of the round of 16 is a clash between Cua Lo Children's Team (first in Group B) and Yen Thanh Children's Team (second in Group A). Both teams are considered fairly evenly matched, each with their own distinct playing style, promising an exciting game for the spectators.
Both teams launched attacks right from the start. The Yen Thanh youth team showed clear determination by pushing their formation high up the field, creating dangerous passes that threatened goalkeeper Nhan Nhat's goal. In the 6th minute, player number 2 Tuan Anh scored the opening goal, bringing joy to the fans in the "rice-growing region".
After conceding a goal, the Cua Lo team intensified their attack, executing smooth passes and crosses from the flanks. As a result, about 5 minutes later, from a long-range shot, number 5 Duc Nhan scored the equalizer, bringing the game back to square one. In the 16th minute, Duc Nhan scored his second goal, raising the score to 2-1 for the team from the coastal city.
Trailing behind, the Yen Thanh team pushed their formation higher, trying to increase their pressure on the opposing team's goal.
At the beginning of the second half, Duc Nhan scored two consecutive goals, raising the score to 4-1. Then, Thanh Truong, Tuan Hung, and Son Lam took turns scoring, increasing the score to 7-1. Near the end of the first half, Yen Thanh scored a goal to narrow the score to 7-2.
This is the final result of the match. Cua Lo Children's team is the second team to qualify for the quarterfinals.
In the remaining matches of the morning, the competition for a place in the quarterfinals continued fiercely. The match between Van An Children's Team and Quan Thanh Children's Team was a tight affair, with both teams playing cautiously and focusing on ensuring safety in their own half of the field. In a back-and-forth game, Van An Children's Team capitalized on an opportunity to score the only goal of the match, securing a narrow 1-0 victory and advancing to the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Vinh Phu Children's team displayed an impressive performance against Giai Lac Children's team. With fluid play, good coordination, and effective finishing, the Vinh Phu players continuously put pressure on the opponent's half. The 4-1 victory not only secured Vinh Phu's place in the next round but also demonstrated their readiness for more difficult challenges in the next match.

The courage to win a ticket to the next round.
Later that afternoon, the race for a place in the quarterfinals continued with exciting matches and many goals. Nghia Dan Children's team showed their superior strength by defeating Con Cuong Children's team with a score of 5-1. Despite their best efforts, the team from the mountainous region of Con Cuong still faced many difficulties against the fast-paced play and effective use of opportunities by their opponents.
In the next match, Hung Nguyen Children's team also put on an impressive performance, defeating Do Luong Children's team 5-2. The match was open with many exciting attacking situations created by both teams, but the sharpness in their finishing helped Hung Nguyen secure their place in the next round.
The most dramatic match of the afternoon was the clash between Dong Hieu Children's Team and Hoang Mai Children's Team. The two teams created an exciting back-and-forth battle, ending in a 3-3 draw after regulation time. In the tense penalty shootout, the Hoang Mai players showed more composure to win 3-2, thus becoming the next team to secure their place in the quarterfinals.


In the match between An Chau Children's Team and Quynh Luu Children's Team, the two teams created an exciting back-and-forth battle. With effective finishing, An Chau Children's Team won 3-2 against their highly-rated opponent, thus advancing to the next round.
Thus, after the fifth day of competition, the Thanh Vinh, Cua Lo, Van An, Vinh Phu, Nghia Dan, Hung Nguyen, An Chau, and Hoang Mai youth teams have successively secured their places in the quarterfinals, moving closer to the championship race of the Nghe An Newspaper and Radio & Television Cup Youth Football Tournament 2026.
