On the morning of April 22, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Journalists Association held a national conference to summarize the association's work and emulation and rewards in 2015, and set out the direction and tasks for 2016.

Attending the event were Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda Department Vo Van Thuong; Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Dinh La Thang; Party Central Committee member, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Thuan Huu; Party Central Committee member, Minister of Information and Communications Truong Minh Tuan and leaders of press agencies, central and local journalist associations and branches.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Vo Van Thuong highly appreciated the role and comprehensive results in terms of organization, expertise, foreign affairs, social and charitable activities, etc. in the activities of the Vietnam Journalists Association in 2015, especially the successful organization of the 10th Congress. He also pointed out the limitations, shortcomings, and shortcomings in the activities of the Association in the recent past. That is, the role of political orientation for press information content of the Journalists Association has not been fully promoted.

The grasp of developments and ideological tendencies of the association members, the speaking out to protect journalists who are threatened and assaulted, as well as the criticism of journalists who abuse their positions to do negative things, has not been timely, in some cases leading to unfortunate consequences, creating complicated problems. The quality of the association's staff has not met the requirements of current press development.

Mr. Thuong suggested that in the coming time, the Association's activities must aim at gathering, uniting, protecting the legitimate rights and interests of members, and encouraging the creativity and dedication of journalists. Building the Association into a truly warm home of colleagues, a place for connection, exchange, trust and sharing among members.

According to Mr. Vo Van Thuong, political training and moral qualities training of journalists need to be given more attention and strengthened in the context of media life and social life, although rich, diverse and vibrant, many new and complicated problems arise, such as taking advantage of democratic freedom to operate illegally, going against the values ​​and goals of revolutionary journalism.

A number of writers show their professional incompetence and are far from reality. Many journalists not only stand aside but sometimes even give themselves the right to stand above life to judge and criticize. Some writers show signs of political and moral degradation. If the journalists' associations at all levels, branches, and press agencies frankly acknowledge, discuss, and look for the degradation of writers in each piece of information, article, and topic, they can detect, correct, and prevent the degradation of writers.

“The Journalists Association is a professional socio-political organization, but here and there it only emphasizes the socio-professional nature. Our goal and mission is to orient public opinion to serve the revolution and the people. Many of us often say that we base our design on the needs of readers, relying on the enjoyment needs of a certain group of readers to design the newspaper, which articles to put on the front page, on the inside pages... We must be unified, have content that serves the needs and revolutionary cause of the Party, the State and the people in the current period, we must present it solemnly, and for issues within the responsibilities and tasks as prescribed, the newspapers have the maximum initiative,” Mr. Vo Van Thuong emphasized.

The Head of the Central Propaganda Department requested the Journalists Association to actively participate in the implementation of the press planning project. The press should step up propaganda to create unity of will within the Party, consensus in society, create motivation to resolutely implement the Resolution of the 12th National Congress, study and follow the ideology, morality and style of Ho Chi Minh, contribute to fighting against ideological, political, moral and lifestyle degradation among cadres and party members...

The delegates attending the conference had 13 presentations discussing issues in the practical work of the association and the profession. The association also summarized and awarded emulation in 2015.
