(Baonghean.vn) - With the 4-day holiday, short trips and destinations within the province are popular choices. Responding to this demand, households raising specialty livestock have prepared their supplies to meet market needs.

With four fish cages raising grass carp on the Lam River, the family of Ms. Ngu Thi Hoa in Block 4, Dung town (Thanh Chuong district) will sell about 100 kg of fish during the Independence Day holiday. Ms. Hoa said: “This time, one cage of fish is ready for sale and two cages will reach the desired weight by Tet. During the holiday, shops are busier, and people celebrate Independence Day more, so the fish are easier to sell and fetch a higher price.”

Ms. Hoa said that most of the 100 kg of fish had already been pre-ordered by restaurants and households. The remaining amount will be sold at the retail market. The price of fish ranges from 90,000 to 120,000 VND/kg (depending on the weight of each fish).

Currently, the Lam River cage fish farming association of the Dung Town Farmers' Association (Thanh Chuong district) has 10 households, with a total of 17 cages. Typically, households practice staggered farming to sell year-round, but they mainly schedule stocking to have fish available for sale during holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), as it's easier to sell and fetches higher prices, resulting in higher profits.

According to Tran Van Duy, a resident of Nghi Tan ward (Cua Lo town), who raises 15 cages of American red snapper and sea bass in the sea, many of the fish in his cages have reached a weight of 0.8-1.1 kg after a year of raising them.

“This holiday, we plan to sell some of the fish cages that have reached the desired weight, both to supply the market for the Independence Day celebrations and to harvest some before the rainy and stormy season. Red snapper and sea bass are species with firm, flavorful, and nutritious meat. These are highly sought-after fish, selling at higher prices than when households sold off their entire stock in November of the lunar calendar. Currently, many restaurants, hotels, and buyers have already placed orders,” Duy said.

Although seafood isn't as popular as during the April 30th - May 1st holiday, this is still a time when businesses selling seafood thrive due to increased demand compared to normal days.

“During this time, many families choose to celebrate Tet at home, so business will be busier than usual. We've stocked up on various seafood such as crabs, sea urchins, and sea cucumbers in tanks to meet customer demand. We've also prepared ready-made dishes like breaded and fried scallops, seafood spring rolls, squid patties, and mackerel patties to cater to customer needs.”

During this time, many people choose community-based tourism destinations in the villages and hamlets of western Nghe An province as their holiday destinations. Therefore, local specialties such as black pigs, Muscovy ducks, and catfish are also quite popular.

Currently, the price of wild boar at free-range farms in Con Cuong, Nghia Dan, and Anh Son districts ranges from 140,000-160,000 VND/kg; catfish from 300,000-450,000 VND/fish; and Muscovy ducks from 90,000-100,000 VND/kg… Mr. Nguyen Ba Hanh, the owner of a mixed farm in Con Cuong district, said: “Community tourism destinations and restaurants in the town and surrounding areas have already placed deposits to buy pigs and ducks. The selling prices of these specialty animals have increased slightly compared to before.”

The four-day holiday, with various tourism stimulus measures, attracted many visitors to local destinations. In addition, many people working far from home chose to return to their hometowns to relax with their families and hold warm, reunion meals. This is precisely the time when the demand for delicious, clean food and local specialties increases, leading to higher prices compared to normal days.
