A few old bowls, pots and pans, and a few sets of clothes they were wearing were the remaining assets of the family of Mr. Pham Van Giang and Ms. Lo Thi Kim in Xop Tu village, My Ly commune.

Mr. Giang said that the entire 3-room wooden house that he and his wife had saved up to build for 3 years had been swept away by the flood into the Nam Non River. Currently, he and his wife and 2 small children have to live in a makeshift tent on Highway 16.

Currently, due to the serious landslide situation threatening lives and property, many households in Xop Tu village, My Ly commune have had to move their properties and dismantle all houses in the landslide area to a safe location...

My Ly is one of the localities that suffered heavy damage due to the impact of storm No. 4. After the floodwaters receded, landslides occurred seriously, causing heavy damage. Currently, 3 households were completely destroyed by landslides, 23 houses were in urgent need of evacuation, 50 houses were deeply submerged in water, and 2 remote villages were isolated for many days and could not be contacted. The total estimated damage was over 3.5 billion VND.

To minimize the loss of life and property, as soon as the storm passed, the My Ly commune authorities mobilized forces and coordinated with local units to relocate people's property to a safe place. However, due to the terrain with over 98% of steep hills, the work of arranging a safe resettlement area for people is still a difficult problem to solve for a poor commune like My Ly.

Mr. La Van Chanh - Vice Chairman of Ky Son District People's Committee said: Currently, the district has directed the Commune People's Committee to support affected households to overcome the consequences. The district initially supported each household whose house was completely eroded and swept away with 10 million VND to build a temporary shelter.

However, these are only temporary solutions. In the long run, people want a safe resettlement site to soon stabilize their lives and feel secure in production and economic development.
