Many lively activities took place at the Fishing Festival at Lang Hieu Temple, Cua Lo Ward.
On the evening of April 29th (the 13th day of the third lunar month), the opening ceremony of the Fishing Festival at Lang Hieu Temple and the launch of the 2026 southern fishing season took place in Cua Lo ward.
The event was attended by representatives of local leaders, relevant agencies and units, and a large number of residents in the ward.

The Fishing Festival at Lang Hieu Temple is an important cultural and spiritual event, closely associated with the worship of the Whale God by coastal fishermen, and is also a typical activity in the series of events.Festival"The Call of the Sea" is a local festival. It also serves as a valuable cultural event to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam (April 30th) and International Labor Day (May 1st).
The Hieu Village Temple has long been a spiritual anchor for the fishing community, a place of worship for the guardian deity who saved the people, the village's founding ancestors, and especially the tradition of worshipping whales (Ông Cá - the Whale God). This year's festival is organized to maintain and promote traditional cultural values, educate the younger generation about love for their homeland, and pray for a year of favorable weather, abundant harvests, and a bountiful sea of shrimp and fish.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Phung Duc Nhan, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward, affirmed that fishing in Nghi Hai in particular and Cua Lo Ward in general is a long-standing traditional occupation, a vital economic lifeline closely linked to the lives of local people for generations.
Summarizing the achievements in the marine economy over the past period, the Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Lo Ward called on all fishermen to uphold the tradition of solidarity, "overcoming the sun and rain," focusing 100% of their machinery and production tools to launch the southern fishing season with a proactive and creative mindset; determined to stay at sea, maintain sovereignty over the sea and islands; strengthen solidarity at sea; abide by the law, and strive towards a transparent and sustainable fishing industry.

At the opening ceremony, the Chairman of the Farmers' Association of the ward also spoke on behalf of the fishermen, expressing his support for the start of the 2026 southern fishing season.
Earlier, on the morning of April 29th, the Opening Ceremony and Announcement took place. In the afternoon of April 29th, the Nghinh Ông Ceremony (Fishing Prayer Ceremony) was held with a procession of over 500 people starting from the Lang Hieu Temple, passing through main roads and proceeding to the Lach Hoi estuary by both land and water. Here, boat owners and elders performed the ritual of carrying the sacred relics and praying for the safety of the fishing fleet.


That same night, a ceremony to pray for peace for ships and boats was held at the harbor in a sacred atmosphere.
Besides spiritual rituals, the festival also includes many competitions and cultural experiences. Accordingly, on April 30th, there will be a traditional boat race, a competition for cutting and grilling mackerel, a fish sauce pouring competition, and a celebration of the local specialties.
