Many students received hundreds of millions of VND in reimbursement from the Health Insurance Fund.
In the social security system, health insurance for students is not only a healthcare policy but also a lifeline for many families when unfortunate events occur. In Nghe An province, there have been many cases of students suffering from serious illnesses requiring long-term treatment with high costs, for which the Health Insurance Fund (BHYT) has covered hundreds of millions of dong.
Many cases receive significant financial support from health insurance for treatment costs.
The humanitarian value and practical effectiveness of the student health insurance policy are clearly demonstrated through cases where patients require specialized treatment at central-level hospitals, with costs exceeding the means of many families.

A typical example is the case of TNKN (residing in Hung Nguyen commune), who unfortunately contracted acute myeloid leukemia (a type of blood cancer requiring complex and expensive treatment protocols). TNKN had to undergo long-term treatment at the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
During the course of treatment, the total cost of examinations and treatment amounted to hundreds of millions of VND. Thanks to health insurance, the insurance fund covered over 371 million VND in hospital fees, helping the family alleviate financial pressure so they could continue to support the child on their treatment journey.
Another case is that of NNNA (from Thanh Vinh ward), who was admitted to Bach Mai Hospital in a deep coma after cardiac arrest, accompanied by many dangerous complications such as meningitis, pneumonia, and acute kidney injury. Her critical condition required prolonged intensive care treatment at a very high cost.
During the course of treatment, the Health Insurance Fund paid over 311 million VND in hospital fees, helping to alleviate the family's financial burden so they could focus on caring for and treating the child.
Also at Bach Mai Hospital, CTHN (from Tan Chau commune) is being treated for Japanese encephalitis along with many complications such as prolonged seizures and electrolyte imbalance. This is a dangerous disease that requires close monitoring and intensive treatment over a long period.
In this case, the Health Insurance Fund paid over 307 million VND for medical examination and treatment costs, enabling the family to continue the child's treatment and recovery.
According to the Social Insurance sector, these cases are not isolated incidents. In fact, in recent times, many students have received substantial financial support from the Health Insurance Fund for treatment costs when they unfortunately contract serious illnesses or suffer serious health accidents or incidents.
Over 310,000 students received medical examinations and treatment covered by health insurance.

According to statistics from Nghe An province during the 2025-2026 school year (from the third quarter of 2025 to the end of April 2026), there were 310,265 instances of students receiving medical examinations and treatment under health insurance, with the total amount paid by the Health Insurance Fund reaching over 180.5 billion VND.
A deeper analysis of the payment structure reveals a focus on supporting severe cases requiring intensive medical intervention. Locally, there were 303,436 outpatient visits with a total cost exceeding 160.5 billion VND. Outpatient treatment accounted for the majority (268,830 visits) and 70.5 billion VND. While inpatient treatment was less frequent (34,606 visits), the cost reached over 90 billion VND, indicating many severe cases requiring long-term treatment with high expenses.
In addition, there were 6,829 instances of students receiving medical examination and treatment outside the province, mainly at central-level hospitals, with a total amount paid by the Health Insurance Fund exceeding 20 billion VND.
According to the Social Insurance sector, student health insurance operates on the principle of community risk sharing. Participating in health insurance not only helps each student to be protected from illness but also contributes to supporting those who unfortunately suffer from serious illnesses requiring expensive treatment.
Currently, the state subsidizes the health insurance premiums for students, making them affordable for most families. Although the premium is not large, the benefits can amount to hundreds of millions of VND for cases of serious illness requiring long-term treatment.

Summer is a time when students participate in many extracurricular activities, travel, and experiences after a year of studying. However, this is also a period that poses many potential health risks due to hot weather and unpredictable rain and wind, increasing the risk of disease outbreaks, accidents, and medical incidents.
In the context of rising healthcare costs, even a prolonged course of treatment or a serious illness can cause financial hardship for many families. Therefore, ensuring full and continuous health insurance coverage for children is considered a solution to alleviate the economic burden when unexpected health risks occur.
According to the Social Insurance sector, health insurance not only contributes to ensuring the right to healthcare for students but also helps many families be more proactive in the face of unexpected medical emergencies.
