(Baonghean.vn) - With the head coach position of the Vietnamese national team currently vacant after the departure of coach Toshiya Miura, members of the Executive Committee immediately requested the Vietnam Football Federation to appoint a domestic coach to lead the national team in the near future.

Coach Nguyen Huu Thang is an icon of Nghe An football.

At the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee this morning, January 28th, 11 out of 16 Executive Committee members agreed to terminate the contract.

Before the contract with coach Miura expired, the VFF will compensate coach Toshiya Miura with two months' salary after terminating his contract.

After terminating coach Miura's contract prematurely, the Vietnam Football Federation's leadership will work with coaches Le Huynh Duc and Nguyen Huu Thang regarding their potential coaching roles with the Vietnamese national team.

The National Coaching Council has stated that both coaches possess the necessary expertise and leadership qualities to be suitable for coaching the national teams. After receiving approval from the Standing Committee, the General Secretary will proceed to work with the former head coach of SLNA and the current head coach of SHB Da Nang.

Coach Huu Thang once confided that taking over the national team is the goal of every coach.

For coach Nguyen Huu Thang, this is not the first time the "football icon of Nghe An" has been approached by the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) to work with the national team. The VFF has extended invitations to the strategist born in 1972 on several occasions, however, that was when coach Nguyen Huu Thang was fully focused on his coaching work at SLNA Club.

Currently, the former head coach of SLNA is still serving as Technical Director at his hometown club and dedicating much of his time to studying. Therefore, it is very possible that after the meeting with the leadership of the Vietnam Football Federation, the coach who led SLNA to win the V.League 2011 championship will reconsider his decision.

It was expected that after the Lunar New Year, coach Nguyen Huu Thang would travel to Europe to further his professional skills. However, due to various reasons, he recently canceled this trip. If he boldly accepts the VFF's offer, the coach from Nghe An will have at least a 50% chance of being honored with the opportunity to lead the Vietnamese national team.

According to information from Nghe An newspaper, coach Huu Thang will return to Nghe An tonight after an important business trip to Ho Chi Minh City. Afterward, he will make an official decision on whether or not to accept the offer from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).
