Accordingly, on August 14th, at Vien Quang Pagoda in Nam Thanh commune, Nam Dan district (Nghe An province), the 2016 Vu Lan Festival (Buddhist calendar 2560) was held. Representatives from the Nghe An Provincial Buddhist Association, local government leaders, and a large number of Buddhists, citizens, and pilgrims from all over participated in the ceremony. The pagoda organized various activities such as lectures on the meaning of the Vu Lan Festival, moral conduct, and the spirit of Buddhist devotion.

Earlier, on the evening of August 13th, a cultural program and lantern-releasing ceremony took place at Vinh Phuc Pagoda in Nam Xuan commune. Thousands of Buddhists and local people participated in releasing lanterns to express gratitude to the deceased and to pray for good fortune and peace for all families.
