(Baonghean.vn) - In recent days, new witnesses have continuously emerged, along with unexpected details, even contradicting the indictment in the case of Miss Phuong Nga's fraud.

Public attention is currently focused on the trial of Miss Truong Ho Phuong Nga (Miss Vietnamese in the Russian Federation 2007) and Nguyen Duc Thuy Dung, who are being prosecuted for "fraudulently appropriating" over 16.5 billion VND from businessman Cao Toan My in Ho Chi Minh City.

Did the defendant and witnesses claim they were coerced into confessing?

It's evident that in recent days, new witnesses and testimonies have emerged, revealing surprising details, even contradicting the indictment and case file. There are suspicions of coercion, as lawyer Pham Cong Hung presented two identical statements from Miss Phuong Nga and Mr. Cao Toan My, showing signs of plagiarism…

Testimony in court also revealed collusion, as the defendant Thuy Dung was able to write letters outside during the investigation, and witness Lu Minh Nghia was able to send letters to the defendant through a messenger who was an investigating officer named Nghia.

Another noteworthy development in the trial was that defendant Thuy Dung and witness Lu Minh Nghia retracted their previous statements in court, claiming that their earlier testimonies to the investigating authorities were untrue. They stated that they were influenced and testified according to the instructions of others. Due to the serious nature of these statements, the presiding judge requested them to take responsibility for their testimony, and both confirmed they would accept responsibility for it.

Meanwhile, Miss Phuong Nga testified that she didn't trust anyone, so she exercised her "right to remain silent" during the initial days of the trial. However, on June 26th, the third day of the trial, she unexpectedly testified that she and Mr. Cao Toan My had never had any agreement to buy or sell a house!

Another witness, Mr. Nguyen Van Yen, also revealed a surprising detail: the forgery of house sale documents was orchestrated by Ms. Nguyen Mai Phuong, who is believed to have fabricated the documents in this case… After questioning all parties, the presiding judge clarified that these forged house sale documents were created after the victim filed a complaint with the investigating agency.

During today's trial (June 27), the defendant Dung, witness Nghia, victim My, and defendant Nga were questioned by the court in turn.

A crucial piece of evidence related to the case was provided to the court: letters exchanged between the defendant Thuy Dung and Lu Minh Nghia (Dung's boyfriend) during the time Thuy Dung was detained.

These letters, wrapped in plastic, were handed over by witnesses.

During questioning, defendant Thuy Dung stated that the letters mainly discussed her unstable mental state and questioned why Nghia advised her to plead guilty and compensate Cao Toan My. Meanwhile, My and Nga had a romantic relationship, not a contractual one. In total, Dung sent Nghia approximately 10 letters on 5-7 occasions while he was in custody.

Meanwhile, witness Lu Minh Nghia, a person with related rights and obligations, stated that he received letters from Thuy Dung 5-7 times. He handed over these letters to the court clerk at the trial. However, this witness said that some letters were still being kept by Ms. Nguyen Mai Phuong. Explaining this, Nghia said that when he received Dung's letters, he and Ms. Mai Phuong read them together, and Ms. Phuong kept about 4-5 of them.

Mr. Lu Minh Nghia also testified that he let Ms. Mai Phuong read the letter because the officer who delivered Thuy Dung's letter was introduced by her, and she said to inform her if anything happened. Mr. Nghia had met Ms. Mai Phuong at a coffee shop and a restaurant on Nguyen Trai Street, District 1 (Ho Chi Minh City).

When questioned by her lawyer about the so-called "emotional contract" with Mr. My, Nga explained that it was a term used by the media. "In reality, it was an agreement where Mr. My gave me money but didn't trust me. He wanted me to put it in writing. The written agreement wasn't important to me, but because Mr. My needed it, I made the agreement," Nga said.

When questioned by the lawyer about the first time Mr. My accused her of borrowing money to open a spa, Nga stated: "That's true, but I didn't borrow any money. I only told Mr. My about my desire for a stable job. Mr. My is my boyfriend, so I thought he had an obligation to take care of me. Because our relationship was serious, not a service-for-money relationship."

Thuy Dung denied receiving any share of the 16.5 billion VND between Phuong Nga and Mr. Cao Toan My. When asked why she stated she received 6.5 billion VND in her self-declaration, Thuy Dung said: "The investigator forced me to write it."
