Can I have a relative renew my driver's license on my behalf?
Many people wonder if they can ask an acquaintance to renew their motorbike driving license at the Department of Transportation on their behalf.

The National Service Portal provides instructions on exchanging driver's licenses issued by the transportation sector as follows:
Individuals submit applications for driver's license renewals to the Vietnam Road Administration or the Department of Transport.
The procedure for handling the matter is as follows:
The Vietnam Road Administration or the Department of Transport will check the application upon receipt; if the application does not comply with regulations, they must notify the individual directly, in writing, or through the online public service system of the necessary additions or amendments within 2 working days from the date of receipt of the application.
Individuals submitting applications in person are responsible for paying the driver's license fee upon receipt of their application as prescribed; when submitting applications through the online public service system, they must pay the driver's license fee through the online public service system's payment function as prescribed and pay other service fees as needed.
When submitting their application, drivers are photographed directly at the licensing authority's office and must present the original documents for verification, except for those originals already submitted.
Within 05 working days from the date of receiving complete and correct documents as prescribed, the Vietnam Road Administration or the Department of Transport shall process the driver's license renewal; if the driver's license is not renewed, a response must be provided stating the reasons.
When renewing a driver's license, the licensing authority will retain the license renewal record (original copy) for a period of 2 years from the date of issuance; the corner of the old driver's license will be cut off and given to the driver for safekeeping (except in cases where the application is submitted online).
Therefore, according to regulations, when renewing a driver's license, citizens will have their photo taken directly at the driver's license issuing agency and present the original documents for verification, except for those originals already submitted. Thus, those renewing their driver's license must go in person to the license renewal office.
