After deploying forces to areas where dog thefts frequently occurred to gather information and identify suspected individuals, criminal investigators (of the provincial police) used sharp investigative techniques to uncover a group of individuals specializing in stealing dogs using highly sophisticated methods and tactics.

They consisted of individuals from various communes in Yen Thanh district, who gathered together under the direction of a main suspect posing as a "dog buyer" to commit crimes. They typically formed groups of two, traveling along specific routes and fully equipped with electric dog catching rods, sacks for carrying dogs, and weapons to defend themselves if discovered.

Through monitoring the movements of the suspects, at approximately 9 PM on September 9th, the task force from Team 4 caught two individuals red-handed while they were stealing dogs.

During a quick interrogation, the suspects identified themselves as Nguyen Duy Trung (born in 1993), residing in Hamlet 3, Tang Thanh Commune, and Hoang Dinh Nghia (born in 1993), residing in Van Thanh Hamlet, Long Thanh Commune (Yen Thanh District). Subsequently, the task force arrested another suspect, Tran Dinh Thanh (born in 1992), residing in Tay Ho Hamlet, Nam Thanh Commune, in the same district, also for the crime of dog theft.

Through further investigation and expansion of the case, that same night, the task force arrested and searched the residence of Nguyen Van Tiep (born in 1980) in Hamlet 19, Son Thanh Commune, who was directly involved in the sale of the stolen dogs and also provided his accomplices with the means to hide the equipment used for "dog theft."

Authorities seized 5 dogs weighing nearly 80 kg, 2 iron cages used to confine the dogs, 2 electric shock devices used to catch dogs, 1 battery charger, 2 swords approximately 90 cm long, 2 empty beer bottles, 1 iron pipe approximately 1 meter long, 1 weighing scale, and 2 sacks containing old clothes. In addition, authorities also confiscated a motorcycle with a fake license plate related to the case, 7,500,000 VND in cash, and a notebook containing entries suspected to be related to dog theft and sale.

After being arrested, the suspects, along with the seized evidence and vehicles, were taken to the headquarters of the Provincial Police Investigation Agency for further investigation and clarification.

According to Trung and Nghia's confessions: at approximately 6 PM on September 9th, Trung drove his motorbike to pick up Nghia in Long Thanh commune. Afterward, the two drove to Son Thanh commune and stopped at Tiep's house with the intention of retrieving a pre-equipped electric fishing rod, consisting of a battery, a transformer attached to a rod approximately 1.2 meters long with a noose at the end, which was hidden in Tiep's kitchen. They also went to the back of the house and retrieved dirty clothes from a sack to change into. They also brought along an iron pipe and two empty green Saigon beer bottles for self-defense and escape if discovered by the public or law enforcement.

Afterward, Trung drove the vehicle with the fake license plate along the roads in the communes to lure dogs. At 9 PM that same day, after luring three dogs in the communes of Van Thanh, Phuc Thanh, and Son Thanh, they brought their "spoils" back to Tiep's house to hide them.

Next, the two suspects drove to a crossroads in Cong Thanh commune to buy heroin for personal use, and on the way back they also stole another dog. As they returned to Tiep's house to hide their tools, change clothes, and weigh the stolen dogs to sell, they were caught red-handed.

At the Provincial Police Investigation Agency, the suspects confessed that, in addition to Trung and Nghia, Thanh and another individual also regularly came to Tiep's house to pick up the tools they had prepared to steal dogs and sell them to him. To evade law enforcement, besides using fake license plates, changing into dirty clothes, and hiding the dog-stealing equipment at Tiep's house, the stolen dogs were hidden in another house before being taken out for sale.

Currently, the Criminal Investigation Department (of the Provincial Police) is consolidating the case file to prosecute the suspects for theft of property, while simultaneously investigating and expanding the search to apprehend the remaining members of this professional dog theft gang.
