I remember that more than a year ago, we were assigned to an armed patrol as part of a task force from the Mobile Police Company (Nghe An Provincial Police) led by Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Minh Nghiem, the Company Commander. A female mobile police officer also joined the task force that night.

At approximately 9 PM on the same day, when the task force arrived at An Duong Vuong street, in Truong Thi ward (Vinh City), they received a report that two individuals on a motorbike without license plates had just snatched a mobile phone from a passerby.

Immediately, the task force split up to set up roadblocks, and we decided to follow the female police officer's car. When we reached Phan Dang Luu Street, we spotted two suspicious individuals. The female officer immediately accelerated, and together with her colleagues, they closed in and forced the suspects' motorbike to fall. As the two robbers scrambled to their feet and tried to flee, the female officer quickly apprehended them. The whole thing happened very quickly, in less than a minute.

Later, at the police station, the two suspects confessed to being Nguyen Trung Sang (born in 1996) and Tran Van Tuan (born in 1995), both residing in Vinh Tan ward (Vinh City). Over a period of five days, they used knives to threaten and successfully carried out four robberies, stealing four mobile phones from people on the street in the city.

Through our investigation, we learned that the petite but brave and courageous female riot police officer is Sergeant Hoang Thi Thu Ha.

Through Colonel Doi's introduction, we had the opportunity to meet Sergeant Hoang Thi Thu Ha right after she had finished her training session on the field. Ha shared: "I love the police force, so I decided to apply to the Armed Police Training College. After years of rigorous training and being assigned to combat units like the Mobile Police, I truly understand the hardships and difficulties of the profession. I'm not saying this to complain, but rather to feel even more honored and proud of my duty to 'stay awake so the people can sleep, stand guard so the people can enjoy themselves'..."

Lieutenant Vo Thi Huyen Trang, a veteran officer with many years of service who has participated in numerous criminal arrests, hostage rescues, and de-escalating hotspots in the area, shared that while female police officers may have physical limitations compared to their male counterparts, they have an advantage in terms of flexibility and adaptability in negotiations. She also has the added benefit of having a husband who works in the same unit, allowing them to frequently support each other in their work.

Lieutenant Chu Thi Ngoc shared that facing criminals is often less stressful than the training sessions. Besides regular martial arts exercises, female riot police officers also have to go through difficult drills such as rappelling down walls and high-rise buildings. This movement requires courage, high technique, and absolute precision; even a small mistake can cause injury or even danger. Initially, it was very unfamiliar and took a long time to get used to the strict discipline. After each training session, their whole bodies ached, and their skin was often scratched and scarred, but they remained determined to stay in the profession.

Female riot police officers are not afraid of any job. From field exercises and armed patrols to handling traffic violations and responding to sudden assignments at the request of superiors. I remember that in 2015, in the Nghe An Provincial Police task force cracking down on illegal gold mining in the border district of Que Phong, there were two female police officers: Sergeant Hoang Thi Thu Ha and Lieutenant Chu Thi Ngoc.

Despite having to climb mountains, cross streams, and traverse forests, these "steel roses" are always ready to go, sacrificing themselves for the peace and happiness of the people. They have often confronted various types of violent criminals, lawbreakers who hurl insults, abuse, and even threaten and attack police officers with weapons. However, they never lose heart, always maintaining the steely resolve of a police officer.

Like other women, after grueling training sessions on the field and stressful, challenging work days, these female riot police officers quietly return to their daily lives, fulfilling their responsibilities as devoted wives and mothers. They have been and continue to contribute to building and enhancing the image of the police officer who "sacrifices for the nation, serves the people."
