Ways to travel and make money at the same time
You can teach foreign languages, blog or do odd jobs in your host country.
Shannon Ullman is an American writer and teacher who loves to travel around the world. In the Huffington Post, she shared some jobs people can do to make money while still enjoying their travels.
Traveling is my passion. I have been working and saving money to travel since I was 17. At 23, I wanted to go further but had trouble finding the time. Finally, after a few years of research and planning, I left the US and started traveling and working around the world. I tried many different ways to make money and here are some jobs you can refer to:
1. Teaching foreign languages
Since I had teaching experience, I took an online course to get a foreign language teaching certificate. I then applied online and quickly received a response from a school in China. With a free apartment, partial airfare, health insurance, and a salary of $1,500 a month, it seemed like the ideal option to earn money and travel. My work schedule was not too long, so I had plenty of time and money to go out for a few days, see China, and take advantage of my breaks to visit some of the surrounding places like Japan, Korea, and Taiwan (China).
2. Blogging

Initially, I blogged just for fun. However, I started writing seriously when I realized that this was an opportunity to make money. When I went to Thailand, I found that most of the goods there were very cheap. Therefore, I was able to sustain my life with the income from blogging alone.
3. Play games for money
I wasn’t addicted to gambling, but after meeting a friend who loved it in Bali, Indonesia, I realized it was a way to have fun and earn money while traveling. I played Rummy and found that I was good enough to make a little money to cover my expenses.
4. Writing
I am someone who has always used my talents to make money. After getting bored with my English teaching job, I thought a lot about how to use my strengths. I realized that I could provide online writing services to earn extra income. So I opened accounts on websites that connect clients and service providers such as Fiverr and Upwork. Gradually, I also had a decent amount of clients. This is my best way to make money while still on the road.
5. Do some other odd jobs
Going to work isn’t all that bad, especially if it’s somewhere interesting. There are plenty of odd jobs that can be done in a short period of time. I’ve worked as a barista in Thailand, a farm hand in New Zealand, a hostess in Europe, and an extra in Vietnam.
