(Baonghean) - In response to the theme of Youth Month 2017, youth union members throughout the province have demonstrated the pioneering and volunteer spirit of youth in disseminating information and participating in socio-economic development, building new rural areas, and developing urban civilization at the grassroots level.

New rural infrastructure projects

Along the village road in Thach Son commune (Anh Son district), hundreds of students nimbly passed clumps of green grass to each other to fill in the edges of the newly dug and widened road. This was one of the activities in response to the 2017 Youth Month with the theme "Young people join hands to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas" by the youth union members of Anh Son district. In addition to digging, widening, and repairing some main roads in the villages, the Anh Son District Youth Union also mobilized its branches to level 700 meters of rural roads.

In Anh Son, in addition to cleaning and repairing village roads and alleys, the youth union branch in Bai Lim village has also launched a Human Resources Club with 12 members to help each other with labor in production and to support each other in developing economic models. Mr. Nguyen Trong Toan, Secretary of the Anh Son District Youth Union, said that in the coming time, the Phuc Son Commune Youth Union will continue to establish Human Resources Clubs in all branches throughout the commune. This not only contributes to helping youth union members develop economically but also increases community solidarity, creating good habits towards building a progressive and civilized community.

In response to the theme of Youth Month 2017, in mountainous and remote districts such as Ky Son, Con Cuong, and Tuong Duong, youth organizations often focus on young people joining hands to build new rural areas, especially organizing "Green Sundays" with many practical and meaningful activities that immediately show results, such as cleaning villages and hamlets, collecting waste, and clearing irrigation ditches.

Building a civilized urban lifestyle.

For urban areas like Vinh City and Cua Lo Town, the theme of Youth Month is not limited to environmental sanitation and rural development, but also includes many meaningful activities aimed at raising public awareness in building a civilized urban lifestyle, starting with a change in the mindset of each individual. In Vinh City, the phenomenon of people encroaching on sidewalks and roads for parking and selling goods frequently recurs, causing traffic safety hazards, detracting from urban aesthetics, and creating a messy appearance for streets and neighborhoods.

Therefore, in choosing activities to celebrate Youth Month 2017, the Vinh City Youth Union chose "reclaiming sidewalks" as the starting point for vibrant youth activities in promoting urban civility among citizens. Accordingly, from February 26th to March 26th, the Vinh City Youth Union, in coordination with the City's Urban Management Department, carried out a campaign to raise awareness and guide people to park and stop vehicles in designated areas on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Street. This street frequently experiences sidewalk encroachment and illegal parking. In addition, the youth of Vinh City also implemented a pilot project of public restrooms at cafes along Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Le Mao streets.

In implementing the youth movement to build urban civilization, according to assessments, city and town units have successfully fulfilled the requirements of the Provincial Youth Union in organizing volunteer activities to build a civilized urban lifestyle, raise awareness and culture of traffic participation, and maintain traffic safety and order. They also need to participate in building teams to maintain clean, green, and beautiful residential areas, roads, and units, ensuring traffic safety and order; and organize four "Green Sundays" for town units.

In addition, the units also organize environmental protection and climate change response activities: addressing waste hotspots and environmental pollution; planting trees and protecting forests; promoting energy conservation and efficiency; organizing activities to protect local rivers and clean water sources…
