The 'big' foreign players slipped through the fingers of Song Lam Nghe An.
(Baonghean.vn) - Recently, striker Dickson Nwakame, a player who previously played for SLNA in the 2012 season, has officially been recruited by the French team Angers SCO in the French National Championship (Ligue 1). Let's take a look back at some good foreign players who unfortunately left the Nghe An team.
Hoang Vu Samson
At the end of the 2011 season, after his contract with Dong Thap FC was terminated, Hoang Vu Samson (formerly Samson Kayode) caused a sensation when he was recruited by Atletico Madrid in La Liga. However, because Atletico Madrid could not register any non-EU players, he was loaned to Sporting Braga (Portugal) by the Spanish club.

In 2012, Samson was forced to return to the V.League to play for Hanoi T&T due to a signed memorandum of understanding and receiving a portion of the transfer fee from the capital city team. Since then, the Nigerian striker has been associated with Hanoi T&T and is currently the top scorer in V.League history with 120 goals. Few people know that, before joining Dong Thap, Hoang Vu Samson had a trial at SLNA and was flatly rejected because he did not meet the professional requirements.
Dieng Abass
B. Binh Duong's top scorer started his career in the Hungarian National League in 2008. Joining SLNA in 2012, Abass played 26 matches and scored 10 goals. This was the Senegalese striker's first year playing in Vietnam, so his performance wasn't considered particularly impressive. However, he was later recruited by FLC Thanh Hoa and became a prolific goalscorer for the Thanh Hoa team.

In 2014, coach Nguyen Huu Thang approached Abass about returning to play for SLNA, but the two sides couldn't reach an agreement at the last minute due to financial reasons. Ultimately, after joining a wealthy club like Binh Duong, Abass displayed outstanding form, scoring 18 goals in the 2014 season and 11 goals in the following season.
Dickson Nwakame
Besides Dieng Abass, striker Dickson is the case that left the most regret for coach Nguyen Huu Thang when he was still leading SLNA. In the second half of the 2012 season, the Nigerian striker played 13 matches, only 3 of which were starts, but scored 10 goals, leaving a strong impression on the coaching staff and fans of Nghe An. Sadly, at the end of the season, SLNA wanted to keep Dickson, but the striker born in 1986 decided to move to Malaysia with a much more generous salary and signing bonus.

Recently, Dickson joined Angers SCO, a team that was promoted to Ligue 1 in the 2015/2016 season and played quite well, finishing in 9th place at the end of the season.
SLNA has traditionally been quite successful with foreign players; however, many of them have moved to other V.League clubs with lucrative offers. Unfortunately, the team from Nghe An lacks the financial resources to retain these foreign players for longer.
