Salmon is delicious and nutritious. Besides being a great source of protein, it also provides fatty acids, omega-3s, vitamins B and D, and minerals like niacin and phosphorus. Many people think a piece of red meat can substitute for a skinless salmon fillet, but some prefer to eat the whole fillet with the skin on to absorb all the nutrients.
Health benefits
Salmon skin has the highest content of omega-3 fatty acids. Studies have shown that these fatty acids can lower triglycerides (fats in the body, mainly obtained from food – vegetable oils and animal fats) and reduce the risk of heart disease. During processing, a salmon fillet with the skin on retains its nutrients and oils.
Salmon is one of the foods that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends eating 2-3 times a week because of its health benefits.
Much of the world's salmon supply is contaminated by environmental factors. It's important to pay attention to where you source your salmon. The FDA, with the help of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has issued recommendations to advise consumers on how to safely consume salmon.
Therefore, experts recommend that if you frequently eat salmon, you should carefully choose wild salmon or salmon raised by reputable companies to avoid potential health risks later on.

Things to note:
Salmon skin is generally safe to eat. However, fish are also easily contaminated by pollutants in the air and water. These chemicals, known as polycorins (PCBs), are carcinogens linked to birth defects.
People who regularly eat contaminated farmed salmon may be at risk of developing forgetfulness or memory loss, which over the long term could lead to dementia.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should avoid salmon skin. Alternatively, salmon skin can be prepared on its own, in dishes such as: crispy fried salmon skin, grilled salmon skin, or incorporated into salads and sushi.
To reduce the fishy smell and remove dirt from the fish, we can use salt water or rub coarse salt on the fish, then soak the cleaned fish in cold water mixed with a little vinegar, remove the fishy smell by washing the fish with fresh milk, or mix the fish with a little pepper.
